Afternoon all

As a few of you know over the last few yrs I had my full share of bad luck and family health issues.

First was the long winded diagnosis of ME back in 2020. That caused me to retire and is slowly getting worse. That calmed down a bit, then the horror of Julie being diagnosed with cancer. Thank god a emergency operation, radiotherapy and two cancer free checks ups, the third this Friday. So far all good.

Then my lovely poor mum. Truly horrible 10 months. Thought this must be the end, please.

A few days before mum's funeral on the 9th I started having terrible headaches, even 8 paracetamol only just controlled them. So thought it's the stress and it will go, but no, got worse. Phoned docs and yes no appointments for weeks, so I told the receptionist I had this terrible headache. The doc phoned me and said come down now. She took blood looking for inflammation and gave me steroids, yes roid rage on the way! Pain very quickly calmed down, phew. Sorted I thought, wrong

Saw her this morning to get the blood results, not good, told me I had temperal arteritis and after speaking to the hospital I had to go there immediately! it's inflammation of the arteries on the side of the head and if not treated can can cause blindness in one or both eyes. So sh** a brick off I went straight to the hospital. To be fair went straight in to the specialist. Had a scan, bloods, eye check etc. If I have any issues with vision or light I have to go back anytime immediately. Thankfully the doctors quick treatment of steroids has reduced the inflammation and of course the risk but now got a large bag of tablets.

Steroids, painkillers, vitamin D, alendronic acid as steroids can cause bone problems. More blood in ten days, if the inflammation has gone down further they will reduce the steroids in steps. Now got to carry a blue steroid users card now!

I have had it up to my ears now, thought after mum my luck might change.

Sorry ramble over, so cheesed off.

Bob, I don't know what to say. You have had enough bad luck over the last few years to last a lifetime. I hope this latest problem does get sorted. Try to stay positive and all the best to Julie. I hope she continues to have cancer free checks.

Bloody he'll Bob! Take care or yourself!

Thanks very much all, yet again wonderful support my friends.

Was going to stick my head in the oven, but it's electric lol.

Huge shock but to be fair went to the hospital, as soon as I said my name a nurse grabbed me, took bloods and before I was aware I was in a head scanner. Next the consultant arrived, and thankfully eased some of my concerns. He praised my doc for recognising the potential problem and getting me on steroids quickly. Dreading what might have happened.

Feel a bit better now but a nasty old day. Starting the shed load of drugs tomorrow. Then more bloods in 10 days, see doc again then the hospital consultant in 4 weeks. After mum I hate going to the hospital but there again Friday for Julie's next cancer check up

Bob, I'm so sorry to hear that another issue has arrived for you, I can only wish you the very best my friend.

Sorry to read you bad circumstances - at least the Doctors seem to be on top of it and you are being treated. I hope all goes well for you.

Peter

It'll be interesting to see how your ME symptoms respond to steroids Bob.Temporal arteritis can be linked to a condition called polymyalgia rheumatica characterised by muscular aches, particularly around the shoulders and pelvis.it responds dramatically to high dose steroids.

Hi Jon

As you do I read on the NHS website and noticed that. Will keep an eye on that?

Hang in there Bob, hopefully better times ahead for you :thumb2:

Geoff.

Life really is s**t for you. I hope you can soon be sorted. All the best.
John.

That really sucks Bob, you AND your wife have definitely had more than your fair share it seams. Best wishes to both of you for a speedy recoveries and for life settling back to some form of normality soon.

Life sometimes seems to throw as much SH one T at us as possible, just to see how we cope with it I think. The upshot is we generally come out of it stronger ands wiser. Hang in there, it'll all work out in the wash.

Very kind of you, thanks

Been rough but the horrible pain has gone and the veins on each side of my head are not so swollen, phew.

Popping pills and rattling nicely

Glad to hear that - that's excellent!

No problem, you're more than welcome. Thank God your GP was on the ball.

A headache update

Saw doctor this morning after a blood test. Thankfully the inflammation has reduced so the risk to my eye sight is reduced phew.

Doc has reduced the steroids down from 8 to 6 tabs but still have to take the rest of the tabs. Another blood test in two weeks. Not out of the woods yet but so relieved.

Thanks yet again for all the support chaps
