    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Worth every spasm Brian 😁. Seriously, hope it improves soon. Could be caused by tension as you tie off all those cords…..

    Airfix Bullfinches

Looking lovely Ian. A flat coat will set them off well. It will contrast nicely with the more shiny beak. One think I would say though, and you can ignore it if you want, is that on the male the white rump extends to just past the legs. Female is correct though 👍

    Eduard 1/48 A6M3 Zero type 32

You will enjoy that Steven. I made an Eduard 1/48 Zero last year for a group build and think it was possibly the best kit for fit and finish I’ve ever made. I would ask for a replacement for that damaged part though…..

    Water washable resin

Plus one on a good thread for this. I’ve had more than a passing interest in this stuff for quite a while without really going for it…so it would be great to see how you get on with it. Home 3D printing seems to be the go to for a lot of miniatures these days….

    HST paint job

May be worth contacting them Andy, they could print to order….

    HST paint job

Just a technical heads up, might help with the transfer search. They are class 43 power cars with Mk III coaches. I went on a spotting trip to see some of them being built at crew in about 1977. Must be something out there as they were used by a lot of operators by the end of their life. The...

    HST paint job

https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/8637-how-to-remove-hornby-mk3-coach-glazing/ These might be worth a look. Also seen a comment that placing the body in a freezer can release the glue on the glazing. Never tried it myself though.

    HST paint job

Plus one on masking the windows. They are inset to mimic the flush glazing on the actual units, so are probably glued in to keep them in place. Those on the doors (drop lights) and cab area are at a different level, so taking them out might be a little easier. Other transfer manufacturers...

    Brian's Caldercraft 1/72 HMS Victory

Blue at the mizzen eh Brian. Sure the mojo will be back soon though….this is too good to miss.

    Steven’s 1/48 Spitfire Mk.IIa

Hiya. I use micro sol and micro set to soften and settle them. Looking very good is this one 👍. Like the exhausts as well. I tend to use the lifecolor rust set and give it a wash of indigo blue. Looks similar , but yours has the more interesting variations….

Pesky dust and blowing it away

My paint jobs are done in a spare bedroom….but I still get dust 😁. I wash my builds in the sink with dish soap before painting. Best way to get rid of finger grease and general swarf.

Pesky dust and blowing it away

I did toy with the idea of making a drop down spray booth plastic front curtain to minimise dust ingress while drying. Basically, spray, switch off booth, drop curtain…. However , cleaning the booth properly before spraying probably gives a better result. The dust (dried paint droplets) that...

Pesky dust and blowing it away

Musing aloud, I’m not sure blowing dust off is the best idea. Just puts it back in the air so it can land back on the newly sprayed wet paint when the air is pulled back in by suction from the spray booth. Don’t know the answer though, wipe over with a damp brush perhaps?

    JEN HURT

Hope Jen recovers OK Chris. Laughing at it is probably the best medicine though….

Masking fluid, how to remove from brush?

I’d say that brush is dead. Anything able to redissolve latex rubber is going to seriously damage the bristles as well.

Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

Blimey Bob, we must be almost the same age…..born October 1960? I get my state pension at exactly the same time at 66 1/2….

Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

Well, when the previous shower got in I would’ve retired (well, got my state pension) six months ago, but they moved the goalposts…..however, I never expected anything different from them and I don’t from these, or from those to come…..

Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

Congratulations on the retirement, by the way. I get to the official retirement age this time next year, unless it moves again….

Is scale modelling a cheap or expensive hobby?

I think most of it went in death duties when her husband died didn’t it? I remember a play about it years ago. Funnily enough, they also checked them “no publicity” box……

Scale indicator, which way is correct? eg: / or :

In my model railway days I worked in 1/76.2 (1:76.2 as you wish), but we called it 4mm to the foot…….in fact, UK railway scales were known by the mil number, 2 mil was N gauge, 3 mil was TT, 4 mil was OO, 7 mil was O, etc…..
