    Tamiya 1/12 Honda CB750F

After giving the gloss black a day to dry I've been dusting on the SMS Hyperchrome. This is the cold tone that I haven't used before and I like how it looks. I always find it hard to photograph Chrome but I've given it a go. Another overnight drying session and I'll try out their new...

Thanks Tony. Something new but very enjoyable. Hope you had a great jolly!

    Tamiya 1/12 Honda CB750F

That's good to hear Paul. I'm looking for the earlier CB750 Four, from the late 60's, early 70's. Kits seem rare or expensive so far.

    Tamiya 1/12 CBR1000RR-R

Thanks Paul. I'll definitely be making more but as I'm not a biker most of them look pretty much the same to me, apart from colours 😂 There are a few I'm looking for though, bikes from the history of my friends and I, so there'll certainly be a few to follow.

Model clubs, what exactly do you do?

I keep considering joining a (physical) club but tend to get all I need from this one to be honest. Since I'm far from the sociable type 😂 it suits me that I can hide away easily when it gets a bit much. I always thought they would be hard to find but following a recent chat on a Farcebook...

    Tamiya 1/12 Honda CB750F

Straight on to another bike kit, although a very different style It's a newer version of a pair of real bikes that I'm painting for a customer. I've since found out that I can get the exact model so this may be more of a practice run. The 1/6 scale Tamiya is £££ though. Even the 1/12 from...

    Latest Acquisitions (2026)

That's a nice kit, although different to most vehicle kits as the body is in separate parts, rather than the more usual complete shell.

    Airbrushing Chrome Liquid

I'm a fan of Alclad chrome, or SMS hyperchrome, which is available in different tints. I've just started another bike build which has quite a bit of chrome and I'll be starting that first as it's quite a long process.

Experiments with laquer and the dreaded pong!

Unopened they last years. You can just see the "use by" date on your cartridge in the above picture, 021230.

    Tamiya 1/12 CBR1000RR-R

Haha, thank you, but don't let my efforts put you off. There are some incredible bike builds on here and I thought I'd never be able to get close to that standard. The kit helped a lot. Since you have to paint everything before assembly it allows you to focus on one or two parts at a time.

    Tamiya 1/12 CBR1000RR-R

Thanks Tim. I really enjoyed the process so no doubt I'll build a few more. I'm sure there will come a point when they get a bit samey, so will have to add variety with other genres. I'd prefer off road bikes, but there doesn't seem to be as wide a variety of that style.

Experiments with laquer and the dreaded pong!

Technically, most should be replaced after 40 hours of use or 30 days after opening, but again, probably OTT for the concentration we work at when airbrushing so a few months of irregular use should be fine. Always replace as soon as you are getting any smell through it, regardless of how much...

To paint or not to paint

There used to be a guy post here (sorry, I can't remember his name) that specialised in that kind of "naked" build. It brings it's own challenges as you can't disguise anything with filler, primer, or paint. Even a slightly errant blob of glue can be spotted, so in ways could be more difficult...

Experiments with laquer and the dreaded pong!

Well, they are the same filters I use if that helps 😂 If anything, slightly over specced with added protection from acids & ammonia, but the A1 rating is spot on. I add additional P3 filters like these...

Experiments with laquer and the dreaded pong!

The short answer would be - I agree with Tim, an A1P3 would be perfectly adequate for airbrushing. The (much) longer answer - Filters come with several ratings ; A, B, E, K, & P. The ones that interest us are A (organic solvents & vapours) and P (particulate) These are further rated with...

    Post apocalypse Citroën HY

Thanks for your comments as always. I've done a bit more painting but to be honest I'm getting bored with it already 😂 Maybe it's down to the weather, or it may be that I'm preoccupied. Next week, my brother & I are taking on the National 3 peaks challenge. Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr...

    I THINK IT'S TIME ?

Excellent advice so far. One piece of equipment I'd add is a cleaning pot. Similar to this, but widely available all over: https://www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/airbrush-cleaning-pot/ You can blow out any traces of unused paint and your cleaning solutions, without spraying them around your room...
