John's sculpt 1/6, Canadian Mounted Policeman.

OK first stage nearly done. This is the rough sculpt in Magic Sculpt that tries to get all the relative bits in the right places. This will be almost entirely covered in the detailed level sculpt which will mostly be done in heat hardening clay. John

John's sculpt 1/6, Canadian Mounted Policeman.

So here are my sprue shots for my contribution to this GB. If you recall I will be aiming at something like this in 1/6th scale So this is how I start. One roughly shaped block of wood, Magic Sculpt, Fimo and fingers crossed. John

Airfix 54mm Napoleonic French Line Infantry

Neil This is turning into a very impressive little group. each sculpt gets better and better. Looking forward to the final painting and posing. This officer is looking very nice however, if it's not too late, I think his legs look a little wooden. His pose is not far from the one shown below...

    Zeus finished

I hesitated for a minute if this should be in Figures pre WW 1 or Sci Fi Fantasy. Finally went with the pre WW1 group. Painted entirely in Jo Sonja acrylics, just a spot of UV resin in the eyes to provide the gloss. I hope you like him, if not you will be thunder bolted! John

    New Bust

Yes thanks Tim. So the sculpting is done. You may notice that the face and hair are a little darker than the rest. This is because I use a heat hardened clay for the more detailed bits. It will all be primed with Tamiya extra fine and then I have to decide if I will paint him realistically or...

    New Bust

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I have finally turned him into the ultimate philandering Rock Star ZEUS. Two reasons the hair and' still to be added drapery will be fun challenges and secondly his hair covers up the always hard to sculpt Ears. Still lots to add but here he is so far...

    All Quiet

For those of you who have Netflix you should check out their remake of All Quiet on the Western Front. This doesn't follow the original book 100% but, IMHO, it is very good. Some great action with some French St Chamond tanks. Beware it is as brutal as you might imagine. John

    New Bust

Hi guys Getting prepared for Gern's emergency GB I thought I should get back into sculpting a bust. I like to start with a wooden form ( 1 below) that will be the basis for a build up of various clays. I then start to cover this form with Magic Sculpt to start, fig 2 and 3. The head is a...

Gern's Emergency services GB - Chat thread

So here's my first draft sketch of what I am going to try for. This will be a bust at 1/9th or maybe 1/6th scale. It may well evolve a little so the "box art" does not necessarily reflect the true contents. John

    Choice of brush for acrylics

I am another one of the brush destroyers and almost never buy anything expensive. As well as painting figures I also paint in oil, acrylic, gouache, and alkyd oils in the traditional sense. Producing paintings for sale and for commissions. One rule that I have found to be useful is to use the...

    Artists acrylic paint for modelling

Jeffrey The acrylics you are looking at are not really "artist's" colours. Here in Canada a typical artist's acrylic tube, (75 ml) costs about 4-10 pounds depending on the colour. These paints work very well for brush painting and are, in my opinion better than the typical modelling paints like...

    WWII Motorbike Identification

Yep definitely a Harley. I think its a 750cc but I am no expert. I did build the 12th scale kit, or maybe it's ninth scale. John

    Bird Watching a Relaxing Hobby

Another regular visitor to our river. The cormorant hanging out with his turtle friends. I always think they look like nuclear submarines when they swim, with only the conning tower above water. John

    Look at what’s arrived.

Barry I am sure you will enjoy every minute of this. Just for interest my father worked in an intelligence section during WW II. One of the assignments he worked on was testing the security of Bomber Command's airfields. He and his team were assigned to infiltrate various airfields and to mark...
