Scratchbuilt 12th scale -- Delivery Van on Lorry Undercarriage

Trevithick invented high pressure steam engines. Trevithick invented, built, and ran the worlds first railway engine. Trevithick built and ran Britains first self propelled road vehicle. I think the French may have built the worlds first self propelled vehicle, for hauling canons (I am not too...

Scratchbuilt 12th scale -- Delivery Van on Lorry Undercarriage

Another excellent build! I remember in the late 50s early 60s seeing similar wagons around my town that all seemed to have those type of wheel. In later years I wondered how they were made. Were they solid cast iron or two pressings welded together? I still dont know. Shame on me as the Bullnose...

    thinking of getting this

I have nearly completed the four Austin Seven models I started over three years ago. Total cost for materials and machinery will exceed £2000. If I had known four years ago what it would cost me, would I have still done it? You bet!!! Go for it! Lee

    Problems with Uncured Resin?

As well as extra curing, try washing the parts with isopropol alcohol (IPA). I use a small coarse brush with the bristles cut short. The resin I use is water washable, maybe ordinary resin is different?

    Scratchbuilt 1/12th scale Napoleonic Cannon.

Do you have more than one project running at one time? You seem to be able to produce amazing models in a short amount of time! I can imagine your models being in great demand by a museum that wants to have them as an exhibition. Nicely done! Lee

Best approaches for designing and printing custom parts for scale models?

Hi reynsi, I have used several different cad programmes and at the moment I just use DesignSpark mechanical and SolidEdge. DS is free for the basic version, which does everything I need. There are some limitations, but trying it won't cost anything. SE has a community edition which is also free...

Does a 3D Printing section exist here?

Wow! A fantastic model, and price. Thanks Tim, but if I can do it I will make my own. Lee

Does a 3D Printing section exist here?

Hi Tony, No problem. I am always ready to hear other opinions, that's how I learn. I used to be a builder and have helped build hundreds of buildings from houses up to mega factories. But I wouldn't know where to start to build a model of one! I do have an idea though of a house over the years...

Does a 3D Printing section exist here?

MADTONY, I would like to have the skills to scratch build from scratch (forgive the play on words!), but I know I haven't. So when I decided to build 4 models of my A7, a car I built 50 years ago, 3D printing was the way to go. I know there are some large model clubs that don't allow 3D printed...

Does a 3D Printing section exist here?

Hi Paramaniac. I have an Ender3 FDM printer, my workhorse for prints that don't need a great deal of detail, and an Anycubic mono 4k resin printer for when I do need detail. I find the resin prints to be fragile and prone to warping, but you can't argue with the level of detail. Both printers...

    Christmas ornament and other bits.

Two years ago I made this ornament for a friend, Marian aged 90. Friends and family have seen pictures of it and now I have to make seven more. After the ornament is decorated with snow (wall filler) and painted white, the flat panel on the front of the will have a "Merry Christmas"...

Making Scale Model Wooden Spoked Wheels

That is a very useful PDF. I hope to make use of it one day when I scratch build a Model T or pre 1906 car. Thanks! Lee

What to do with completed models?

Give them to people you don't like and pretend to be so proud of the model they daren't throw it away.

Welcome to this Anniversary GB, 90 years of Spitfires.

I'm not sure if this counts. My late friend Lorna bought an Austin Seven "special" in 1958, her first car. A special is just an A7 that has had the body removed and a home made body fitted. The student who built the car told Lorna that he had visited a local RAF base and cut some of the skin...

    Pin stripes

    B. I am still new to the world of modeling and especially cutting machines. I don't know anything about masking material except masking tape. When I was wondering how I was going to produce 1/2mm wide pinstripes it was suggested at my local model club that I sould try decal sheet. I had heard of...

    Ford Model T 1/16th scale --- modified.

Lovely model! I've always had a soft spot for the 'T'. Perhaps it was all the Laurel and Hardy films I've watched. Very nicely done. Lee

    Nervous Newbie.

Welcome. I have been down the same path as you! I chose scratch building to make my models, but maybe one day I will build a boxed kit. Lee
