Anusha 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

I've been trying to paint her headscarf a nice pale colour, but of course even after four coats with a brush it looked an uneven mess. I've had some masking putty for quite a while, but I'd never used it. I knew I could get the desired smoothness with my airbrush, so I decided to try it out...

Anusha 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

I disagree, Tim. The precision and clarity you achieve with the little chaps is something i just couldn't do, I'm sure. While you produce all sorts of different things to a very high standard, I've just improved by contentrating on one particular field, to the exclusion of all else. But you're...

Anusha 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

Hi Tony, I'd be delighted to help, if I possibly can. I've learned a huge amount from the good folks on here, especially that @Tim Marlow fella, so if I can pass any of that knowledge forward, I'll certainly do so.

Anusha 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

It's called a bindi, Tim. It has lots of meanings and religious significance, but is also worn simply as a custom or fashion (maybe like a crucifix is, in other cultures? Or perhaps beauty spots?) The dominant notion is that it represents the Third Eye, the seat of wisdom, and the point of...

Anusha 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

Thanks all. I've attacked the skin tones again, trying to get a stronger contrast between light and shade. Very rough at the moment, with a LOT of violet in the shadows. From straight ahead (if you ignore the roughness) she looks OK. But from thr shadowy side she looks a mess. I'm going to...

Anusha 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

Here's another bust from Pedro Fernandez. I had some difficulty excavating a sliver of supporting material underneath the lower part of the nose ring. The nose ring snapped, and I've glued it back together, rather inexpertly. Her skin is pretty rough - I've been stuggling to get the right...

    Sgt Elias

Looks good, Lee. Have you used a gloss finish for the sweaty look? I'm not sure what scale he is, but if it's not too small, some catchlights in his eyes would really bring him to life.

    Airfix Bullfinches

I do love a paint-heavy project, Ian, and as you say, this is going to be all about the paint. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Sanding Timber to the required thickness

That's a lovely bit of kit, @radish - I struggle to drill a straight hole in a piece of wood, never mind building dedicated woodworking machinery like this. One of the lovely things about this forum is that we embrace and encourage people with skillsets at all levels, using all sorts of...

Brooklyn 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

This has been a real joy to paint. Such a wonderful sculpt, full of character and life. I'm particularly pleased with the skintones. It's pretty natural to paint skin in brightening tones of the same colour - lighter flesh tones for Caucasian skin, lighter browns for Black skin. But skin is not...

This is now done. I'll post some more pictures in the relevant Completed section, of course.

Oh my goodness - what an amazing piece of work! That's just fabulous!

The rise of Warhammer, et al, V "regular" traditional scale modelling?

I pretty much exclusively paint figures these days (although I do regularly branch out in other fields - e.g. modelling in paper, balsa and tissue) I started off with a 28mm army for A Song of Ice and Fire (a wargame based on Game of Thrones). I didn't actually play the game much (this was...

Brooklyn 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

Some messing about with colours here. Her vest top is currently shades of grey. I'm considering tinting it, perhaps with a thinned contrast paint, or alternatively just dropping some colour into the deepest shadows - probably purple or violet. I think the piping will be light orange, eventually.

    RAF Pilot 1-32 Scale

This is very nice, Neil. Love that leather jacket - so good I want one myself! A shot indicating the size of this figure would be good - it would help us to appreciate your skills properly.

Brooklyn 1/10th scale bust, Pedro Fernandez Works

Just for you, Joe - some detail of how rough things are, before they get better (hopefully!) I'm using dark violet for the deep shadows, and pale blue to highlight her skin - black skin is much more reflective than white, so those highlights are reflecting the sky. Seems to work.

    Airbrushing a Kawasaki Z900

A pal, new to modelmaking, is building a 1/12th scale classic Z900, and he's asked me to airbrush the tank and side panels for him. I've not done anything like this before, so it's a great opportunity to practise on someone else's model, rather than ruining one of my own! So my questions are -...

Paul T's Cutty Sark, Academy 1/350.

I used to live a few minutes' walk from the Cutty Sark, as a small boy in the sixties, and Greenwich Park was my playground, too! She suffered a catastrophic fire a while back, during a major refit, but she's been superbly restored. I remember when Sir Francis Chichester's 'Gipsy Moth IV' was...
