    Wooden models

Can you actually remember those old Hobbies fret saws Dave ? I think that they might have been treadle operated back in the day. Any still kicking around might qualify as unusual museum exhibits.

Scratchbuilt 12th scale model of a Hand, or Man Drawn, Fire Hose Reel.

Very well executed model. Quite an unusual subject to tackle.

    Dspiae mini cordless (USB) Grinder

My post was not setting out to repeat the chuck size difference as pointed out in Andy's OP but the reason why they might be different.

    Modellers vice build

I like to see a good engineering project allied to model making like this one. Very interesting ! A number of years back I made a 4 way tool post for my little Unimat 4 lathe. Saves lots of time by doing away with a lot of setting up of tools individually using the tool post supplied. It was...

    Book Nook station

Very nice unusual models featured by the OP.usual Certainly nice to go off in a different direction to the usual and probably the sort of model that would be more acceptable on the living room sideboard than a big weathered Tiger Tank ! All pre printed in colour and well designed from what I...

    Dspiae mini cordless (USB) Grinder

The probable disparity between the Dspiae Chuck being 3mm and the Dremel Chuck at 3.2 mms is that the Dremel is an American tool and 3.2 mms is the equivalent to 1/8th of an inch. I think that the Americans have still stuck with Imperial measurements for much of their stuff.

    Flying scotsman

    Fair points Tim.

1/24 ‘Dutch’ Schaefer ( Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator)

Nice model of 'Big Arnie'. The rest of the Predator team would also make good subjects to go along with this one.

    Bargain!!

To be fair, the store honoured the tag price. Could have been a genuine reduction that did not get updated on their system. Hence the bar code giving a different price. Wotan. Hobby stores are not going out of business because of this. It is because people like us have deserted them to buy...

It was only left on here for 3 days Tony. Didn't give anyone much of a chance to see it unfortunately.

Fujimi 1/12 Honda Z50 Monkey Bike 50th Anniversary Edition

What a cute project, both as a model and the real deal full size! Lovely builds of model and original. No problem with reference sources there Nick ! The full sized bike as a project must have been fun to do and not take up lots of work space either. I seem to remember Heller did a mini bike...

    Custom 68 Volkswagen beetle

Very nice job using aerosol paints. Often better and more convenient than setting up an airbrush for overall colour finishes on car bodies. Now that aerosols for real car applications are acrylics in the main, they are eminently suitable for using on plastic models. Plain colours are ideal for...

    Building from scratch

A bit late to the table here, but I think that C1 Models does a transkit for a Beetle Pickup. HTH

I have to change my brand loyalty ...

Stashitis. A disease very common to scale modellers. Often referred to as CKBS. (Compulsive Kit Buying Syndrome) Symptoms. An overwhelming desire to keep buying kits. An I'll build that one day state of mind...

    Heller Citroen Fourgon HY build

There was a now defunct company named Motobitz that sold alternative decals for this model. A friend of mine built his model using their Guinness livery transfers. I don't know if anyone else has taken on the Motobitz after market items of not.I The Heller kit is quite reasonably priced...

Sanding Timber to the required thickness

I think what Radish was getting at about wood grain is that most of the original woods used on the actual vehicles themselves would be totally unsuitable to make a scale model of that vehicle because in scale the grain would be far oversized. In the UK I have seen a number of wooden models of...

    Old modelling handbooks/guidebooks/manuals

Regarding the Complete Car Modeller books 1 and 2, as I make models predominately in plastic I found those two books very useful and simply adapted many of Wingrove's techniques to suit. For example, scratch built chassis can be made from plastic card or from plastic extruded hollow sections...

    Old modelling handbooks/guidebooks/manuals

I have the Art of Weathering book and Cottage Modelling for Pendon. The weathering book is a very good treatise on the subject although biased towards railway modelling. The Cottage Modelling for Pendon describes how the individual buildings were made for the museum at Pendon in the Vale of the...

16 Passenger Omnibus -- Scratchbuilt in 12th scale

Absolutely lovely, just like all the other horse drawn vehicles you have shown on this forum radish. I have to say that not only are your model making skills top notch, but also your painting, lining and sign writing are excellent too considering you are working in wood, that demands much more...
