I will have 2 props for it. one for static display and the other for flying if im brave enough to put her in the air.

You did a great job, ill let you know if i cant find one. a company caller Axor do some great stuff.

Thread owner
Thanks Trey. It looks a 1000 times better now the fool proof has dried out properly. Ill post some more pics later as i add the detail work to them.

This continues to amaze and is coming along beautifully. The quality of craftmanship is of the highest standard and the parts that you are getting together are looking pretty amazing.

As for eventually flying the end product I'm going to feel very nervous putting my steam coaster on the pond when it's finished but, hopefully, the chances of it sinking will be pretty remote. Compared to the chances of yours having a crash I'd go with mine any day! Just watch a few YouTube clips of crashing RC aircraft to put you right off!

Lol, I'm with you all the way there mate. I got a decent size pond 5 feet deep 9 feet diameter in my garden. I can check the Happy Hunter on it before i sail it but i think now... there is no way 'The Old Dutch' will every fly. not in my life time anyway. I will put her together and fit everything in her ready to fly but on the ground she will stay. Might even taxi her a few times if I'm at a static show and apart from cranking her up every so often, that is all she will do.

Cheers

Andy

Andy, you put the fear of God up me when you mentioned having two props....one for static and one for flying!!

Don't ever do that to me again, and promise me this beautiful model will never take off.....

Yes Ron I promise. I lost one 'Old Dutch' I'm not going to lose another. Having built it for the reason i have i guess the grief of destroying her will wreck my world all over again. Its been a year today since i lost 'The Old Dutch' i hope she is in that better place that people talk about... enjoying herself with all her old friends and family that were so dear to her. I cant help but have a tear in my eye as i type this. God Bless you Mom.

Well I will raise a glass and say "to the Duchess".

Now that i have gathered my thoughts i can show you tonight progress. I have started the metal work on the stained struts. This is a bare canvas for a few scale rivets, nuts and bolts and small roundhead screws. Once complete i will apply a coat or 2 of flat black polishing enamel before applying a final coat of fuel proof.

Sorry i missed this three days ago... a years gone by so fast.

Anniversaries like this are hard, i still have a down day on the day Dad passed, that was back in 2005.

If you'll allow a belated toast to your grand lady then i'll do just that mate ...cheers.

Thanks guys for your kind words, i really appreciate them. Sorry for the delay in responding, my PC crashed a few days ago and its with the menders as we speak. I have managed to dig out this laptop but had to do some work on it as it was running very slow and was stashed away for 18 months for that reason. I took it to work and formated it. Took of Vista and installed XP. Works a treat now. I have some more pics for you, i wil load them tomorrow.

Thanks again

Progress update: I have completed the under carriage legs now and progressed a little further. Here is where we are.

The metal work has now been completed and had a coat of flat black and a couple of coats of satin fuel proof.

The next part i have been concentrating on is the axle fairing, almost complete now.

View attachment 42570View attachment 42571View attachment 42572

Next biggie is to make the two spats that cover the under carriage legs at the base, i know normally that spats cover the wheels but in this case they cover the leg base. Nothing in the kit for this as you would expect so they had to be made.

First job was to make a mould... usual task of taking a block of balsa and carving into shape.

View attachment 42573View attachment 42574View attachment 42575View attachment 42576View attachment 42577View attachment 42578

Now to mix the silicon rubber and cast the mould.

View attachment 42579View attachment 42580

Mould complete its time to do a little fibreglassing, 4 of these halves have to be made as you would have guessed already.

Now we are up to date. Thanks for looking.
