I bought this Academy 1/48 ME109K-4 today.I'd heard their kits are good VFM but hadnt bought one before now.As you can see it has fine engraved panel lines and a superbly clear canopy. There's also a decal sheet by Cartograph and a brass pitot and gun barrel ends.Only £19 and all.Dont know what the fit is like ,but it looks a bargain at that price.

Great fitting kits and great to build. Watch the decals though lol
"What he said" ! The models are very good, but just once in a while the decals can be a bit out of register.

I've had a couple, lovely kits, great detail and easy build, the decals in mine were bloody awful, so thick you could have sliced them several more times and they wouldn't even beat into submission with Microsol, plain horrible, i'd rather have thin decals that fall apart if handled too much than ones that thick.

The model was excellent though

Perhaps Academy have adressed the decal problem by getting Cartograph to supply them. The ones in this kit look very good.

If they are by cartograph then they'll be good. I've had three kits now with terrible decals from Academy so i'm very wary :)

I will bear the decal problem in mind when buying their kits in future.Perhaps i got lucky with this one.I think they arw still worth buying even if i have to get an after market decal sheet.Im after a 109G6 as well.Already got an Erich Hartmann decal sheet. So a G6 with crap decals would still be a good buy.

Totally agree Dave. I love their kits. Never had a problem with them. Just the decals lol

Yeah. I got their F16 in 1/32 and it looks so good in the box I'm scared to start it! But I sure hope the decals are OK - there's thousands of 'em!

ive only been building models for the last 4-5 months and i think the majority of the models ive done have been academy. i find them fantastic. really nice detailing pretty good fit and the price from modelzone for them is amazing, havent had a problem with the decals, just about to start a chinook by them.

cheers

Si :)

I am a huge Academy fan, I have done quite a few in 48 and 72 scale and just love them.I have had no hassles with the decals to date, just lucky I guess.

I just got back from town now with an older Academy 1/72 Dassault Super Etandard. Wil post on the under construction section when I get started.

The only Academy kit so far I din't like was the 1/48 (1/50 actually) Dassault Mirage 3, godd fit, but VERY low on the detail :-(

For me academy has been hot or miss..... i think for the most part they are really nice.... but they have a branch that produces kits in the Phillipinnes and those kits are garbage..... I got a Strike eagle a while back and nothing lined up... there was NO english in the instructions..... and the decals were super thick...... On the other hand I just picked up an Academy Minicraft Sukoi Su-27 kit that looks great..... we'll see if Im still giving them praises after the build LOL
