Well its the start of summer here. we know because it snowed yesterday o.O

We got wolves back last year, they emigrated in from Germany... but only on the mainland.

Not quite as vicious as the one in your photo Jim but we got some grumpy red squirrels here. They actually scream and throw things at you if you disturb them LOL

Actually... not true, hedgehog population has suffered catastrophic declines as with house sparrows, both down by 80-90% since the 70's or something like that. The Hedgehog decline has been massive of late.

oh no i do like the Hedgehog, and as for the sparrows, its the same hear you hardly see one, only in a few areas you get them,

think some think to do with the Indian mynabird

Usually alien species or feral cats, rats, dogs you name it.

Nope, mainly man-made, grubbing out hedgerows, fencing with no gaps to allow hedgehogs between gardens, more roads and again with no way for them to cross except the tarmac, clearing gardens and leaving them nowhere to over-winter. Same for the sparrows, removing their habitat, no nesting sites. We do have invasive alien species which cause havoc but the decline in these two species is definitely our collective fault.

..... Maybe that's why the spiky little buggers have become so "punchy" of late .......... They realise their days are numbered and they are none too happy about it

agree Neil i did know that in some places they had pipes under the motorways for the small critters to get from one side to the other,

and doing full fence well that saids it all,no way to migrate between places or not were to try and find a winter sleep over:rolleyes:

That's sad :( they're cute little buggers, leave it to mankind to botch it!:mad:

Love the bears! last year

I woke to a bump in the night, looked out on back porch and saw "Pudgie" having a grand old time with trash bag I forgot to lock in shed. About 500 or so pounds of him, decided not to interrupt his dining experience, they can be dangerous if startled and flimsy back doors won't stop them if they really want in! Early spring is the time to be wary of them, Mama just out with her new cubs is a force to be reckoned with, you DON'T want to accidently get between her and them

I met one big old bear when I lived in New Hampshire a few years back .......... They aint cute and they definately aint cuddly.......... Luckily I had a big truck I could back up to and get in pretty quick ....... I'm not sure he or she was particularly interested in me but I wasn't risking the chance of the meeting........

You never know with them, best to avoid the issue, not aggressive per - say but they want no part of us either. Not REALLY a big problem if you show respect.

So I believe ............ I was repairing the hydraulics on a tractor and walked around the garage to get something out of the truck and there he was all big and stuff on the edge of the woods looking at me........... On a separate note, I was there early one morning sitting outside on the porch having a coffee and a smoke...... and a line of turkeys wandered up the drive across the yard and on up into the woods. I lost count but there were over fifty of them just going about whatever business Turkeys do...... Bizzarre.

We have tons of wild turkeys, don't think much of them, a bit gamey and tough but some love them. hardest to hunt as they are very wily and smart. Deer are stupid but make up for it with nervous alertness.
