Should work for a simple DC motor which I assume the Airfix one is.

Joking aside, I thought you were talking about a contra - rotating prop arrangement !
 
Not the only one Ade, I too have wired up motors for my RC boats wrongly and then hit forward on the transmitter only the for the boat to go shooting backward...one day I may learn...but doubt it.

You could always try pushing the drive shaft through the centre of the commutator so that it sticks out of the back, then turn the motor round (if you prefer complicated solutions, that is.)
