At last, postie has delivered some good news. This;

In the rather large box was some this lot. All nicely detailed and no sign of any real nasties.

And just a few decals.

It looks like Airfix have caught on to Revell in the decal department. First impressions are very good. So, lets see how well it goes together.

Hi Colin
I'll follow this with great interest. My dad was on the design team when these planes were built at Brough. Once Blackburn's test pilot let me sit in the cockpit when I was a boy.
Jim

That looks really nice Colin, the brand new Airfix one?
Will follow along too, great looking aircraft with a long service life :smiling4:.

Was thinking of getting this one Colin, so I’ll watch and see what it’s like.

Mine gets delivered later this week. Am keeping an eye on this build with interest!

One things for sure Airfix are producing some tidy mouldings (and decals) these days. Their latest starter sets I've found to be excellent. Be interesting to see if the fit on your kit is a good.
This looks equally tidy.
Nice choice Colin.

Got to love the brick. I'll put t'kettle on and get a brew going.
Detail looks good on the parts.

Sit there DON'T touch anything, or words to that effect I imagine !
This looks equally tidy.
At the moment, all looks and fits very well.

So far so good. If and when the RAF version comes out, I might just invest...

Well, I've not been totally idle. I've been chopping bits off , test fitting and painting. And I'm happy to report, all is good so far.

The cockpit has come in for a bit of criticism for being a bit flat. Airfix rely on decals to bring it to life which works ok in 1:72.

Nice engine detail.

The 'pit all done. I've used some Airwaves PE belts. Honestly, 1;72 PE, why do we do it. Cockpit sidewall detail is decent enough. Test fitting shows all is good. I must remember the 15g of lead for the nose, although I always like to squeeze a bit more in, just in case.

Hi Colin
As Ron says the latest Airfix kits do seem rather nice and this looks to follow the trend. Cockpit looks good. I wonder why Airfix didn't go for 1/48. Maybe that scale will come later.

That would tick a lot of boxes for a lot of people. Airfix have up-scaled their Tiger moth, so who knows.

I was up at 0630 and headed off to my room. It was a two coffee start.

And done a bit more work. There's 11 parts about to be locked up inside this fuselage. The level of kit engineering is quite impressive.
15.JPG

Part count now up to 13 including some wing strengthener type things.
16.JPG

Top part of the fuselage fitted. A nice tight fit with just a bit of cleaning up to do. Remembering of course all those interlocking bits and pieces inside - again, the engineering of this kit is quite impressive.
17.JPG

And finally, just for now the exhaust jet pipes. Standard kit part on the left, and the easily modified version on the right. A simple change which just helps the finish.

I really am enjoying this build, it been a while since I've had anything this nice to play with !

Hi Colin
All looking very clean and neat. Airfix sound to have done a good job.

HI Colin nice work do the wings fold up at all ?
chris
There is a wing fold option. I'm not going down that route, but the parts are nicely detailed.

Looks like a nicely engineered kit. One of the very few planes I ever built a long time ago.

That etched set seems to be for another kit than this, where you can just glue the etched parts to a flat “end” of the wing. If it’s intended for this kit, then I’m not seeing how it’s supposed to fit either.
