I picked this up at Telford, the new Airfix 1:72 Messerschmitt Me 262A-1A. I found it on a stall for £10.00 and again, I think the detail / price ratio is very good. But how will it build ? Let's see.

Well, I've slapped a few bits together, the cockpit gets a nice bit of detail. Airfix actually provide a spar for the wing - in 1:72, does this mean the model wing is really thin and needs a bit of support ?

The only disappointing thing at the moment is the pilot, he's a bit of a blob, so I've sacked him, he's in the bin.

I like the look of it as well, very sleek. Especially when you compare the 262 to its British counterpart the "quite agricultural" Gloster Meteor.

Now then, moving on. I've had a play with some paint (another Telford purchase) The pic doesn't really do it justice. But this Vallejo metal colour stuff is pretty good.

The test fitting of wings and engine nacelles, looks like this. Not very good for a new tool kit. I'm thinking I'll just remove some material on top of the nacelles and it might just slip into place - well I can hope can't I.

Well to get to grips with this little 1:72 262, I think I'm going to need something a bit stronger than a bottle of Spitfire !

Well, those engine nacelles were a flippin' pain. I'm struggling to believe how much filler this little Me262 is absorbing. I'm a fan of new tool Airfix, but this is something different, it's a bit old school.

As expected, but really didn't want to see, primer showed up more than a few problems, more filler.

Another small problem, thanks for this Mr Airfix, a deformed tyre. Which is a real shame because the hubs are separate pieces. This is a real nice touch which makes painting much easier, and in 1:72

I finally got to a point where I was (sort of, well nearly) happy with all my filling and sanding. So, another coat of primer followed by a play and learn session with the new H & S Infinity Cr +
I had a go at pre-shading this little 1:72 Me 262. I used a very diluted mix of black on top (for the darker colours) and a shade of grey underneath as the lower colour is quite light, RLM76 I think.

The AB does produce very fine lines, it just a great pity my aim is so poor !

And finally. Rather than use a large decal which wraps around the fuselage and tail at the same time, I'm spraying the two lines. This is perhaps a trick normally used on larger sales, but that decal looks like trouble. I'll start with blue, then add the maroon later.

Looking great there Colin! Shame about the filler though, but you sorted it out well!
Isn't it fun with the new airbrush and how much more detailed you can be now?!
My only problem is that I can't spray straight lines for some reason... I hope it get better with practise, but it might be the damn age that's showing its mileage too?!

Anyhow, looking forward to see the finished model!

As a new tool it is disappointing to see the quantity of filler required.

As for the wobbly lines, wobbly is good it gives a more natural feel than a rigid line, you should see mine they look like I have drunk a dozen bottles of Spitfire before spraying.

You're not alone. At the moment I think the AB can out perform me, I need to reverse the tables - more practice.

You are indeed correct, it would just be nice to prove to myself I can do straight lines.

Looking good Colin. Surprising that a new mould kit is having so many issues, but you're seeing those pesky issues off. The painted fuselage bands will make a good difference to the finish.

Its a shame about the nacelle-to-wing fit and that deformed tyre, otherwise the kit detail looks good.
You're doing a grand job with the pre shade and fuselage bands, in 1/72 that's some feat.
