Not a good effort I'm afraid, there are some howling errors, Painting is all brush work, mistakes are legion.

It is an old kit and it shows, the front undercarriage doors are just wrong if you want them raised and a valuable lesson on this one would be to do the decals on the tail fins before attaching - though it would make it an awkward finish. Also the canopy has very few uneven marking which made it tricky to do any marking out on it, must be a trick to that.

I gave up on all the tiny decals in the end and It really needs a coat of matt but moving onto better subjects so using this as a lesson in something or other - How not to do lots of things mainly.

Nice one. I haven't seen a Liberator in ages.

It's an old kit with big problems Neil. Your finished kit looks okay, you have pointed out major deficiencies yourself.

Regarding the canopy, if it is lacking frame work, you can either make your own masks or you can use clear decal paper painted in the appropriate colour to apply the framing. The advantage of using decal paper is you can paint the inside colour on first and then apply the main colour. This is then varnished to the same finish as the rest of the paint work and applied in strips. Painting the frames by hand without a mask makes the framing look wrong, as the rest of the model is usually varnished and it is not possible to varnish the canopy paint to the same finish as the airframe.

Thanks for the tip Joe, I'll have to get some of that next time I got to the LMS - which for me is handily linked at the top of the page :) I just realised what I guess I was ignoring previously, the tail fins are not actually even either :)

So long as each subsequent model gets better than the last I'll be happy.

That's a great approach to the hobby, Neil. Do yourself a favour next time and start with a half-decent kit, you'll be greatly encouraged by the results you achieve.

ah, it was one from the wife last Christmas so not much choice there. Hopefully the rest in my stash will be an improvement, the F5 I'm doing is a much better kit all round and the newer Airfix ones I have look altogether better. It would be nice to get a newer B24 kit if such a thing exists, it was an interesting aircraft.

Great effort on a difficult kit Neil, I think Hasagawa has a decent 1/72. Revell has a cople in 1/48 that are'nt too hateful. Good luck with the F5!

I think you're way to hard on yourself especially on a bad kit. The important thing is you learned some new lessons and hopefully in the end you enjoyed some time at your bench.

As Trey says, Hasegawa do a B-24 in 1/72 which is superb, but expensive; Academy do both 'D' and 'J' models which are really nice, and somewhat cheaper.

Great effort Neil

There's something about this plane I like think I may get one
