Airfix have just updated their site with a section on some of the 'behind the scenes' goings on. An interesting read for

Colin M...

A very interesting read.Ive already got my eyes on the 1/48 Meteor and Defiant. And I'm very tempted by the Shackleton.Even though I don't build 1/72 anymore.

Very interested in the Shackleton myself. I saw one fly as a kid, that image has stuck with me forever.

Got my Shackleton preordered. We used to visit burghead when I was a lad and remember these flying around the skies of the Moray Firth. One time my aunty brought her cockney boyfriend who had never been north of Enfield before and couldn't believe the RAF still flew "fahkin lancarster bombers!"

Something that spectacular surely would :D :) Large planes really are amazing to see in flight :)

ZERO interest in almost ANYTHING from Airfix these days.

All they EVER seem to do is re-hash the same-old same-old.

They have clearly forgotten that CARS even exist, yet the global market for car kits is gigantic.

If Tamiya, Aoshima, Fujimi and even Revell can continually pump out new car kits, WHY can't Airfix make a few?

It's hardly as if there's no market for them - and they allready have a vast catalogue of 'nearly-ready' from their Scalextric range.

Airfix? - call them Dullfix.

I agree. The last good model they did was the 1:24 typhoon. They should make a few more large scale aircraft. And some more cars

I've pre ordered the defiant and am looking st the meteor for a night version fighter but I'm unsure if the two seater long nose is going to be in their schedule.

An interesting point of view. Which Airfix New Tool kits have you tried which brought you to this conclusion ?

I can understand a car person being disappointed with their range, they do seem to focus on aircraft a lot, which of course does suit me.

Got the typhoon in my stash. I like the way its put together. But I think the moulding itself is average compared to other kit manufacturers out there.

It seems to me airfix is just releasing small scale spitfires. Would be nice if they realesd more large scale aircraft with the same level of detail as the typhoon

I agree with your point on the vehicles, they have many military vehicles, but no small civillian cars. They mainly have rally/racing cars or sports cars.

But some may argue that aircraft may be their main focus as it's in the name, but I really would like to see some more of those modern civillian vehicles :D :)

I like that new Kit-Starter feature on their website too, it lets everyone put in their own ideas and lets everyone come together and pitch in to get old kits re released and new kits to be released :D :)

youve got to remember that aircraft are 'Airfix's thing'......say Tamiya and you think of 1/35 armour and 1/24 cars......say Bandai and im thinking sci fi....so its natural for them to specialise in what they are known for...........they are a business dont forget, they have to make a product that need to sell to make a profit....trying to break into a market that they are not as well known for is a gamble

and it takes a long time, years even, to research and design a kit, costs a lot to cut the tooling.....which of course needs to produce and sell a certain amount to pay for the costs before it makes a profit

i know they say they have this new 3d scanner technology which is great......as long as you have something to scan in the first place....you cant do something thats really interesting if its so rare that there isnt one around available to scan

I don't have the large Typhoon, but have built four of their small offerings and have to say the "price per detail" ratio is very good. New Tool of course, not the old stuff !
