Just put the wraps on this . Ca'nt say enough great things about this kit,one of the best I've ever built. Fit and finish is top notch and the instruction booklet even has actual reference pictures included. The decals laid down very nicely and accepted the Walthers Solvaset blending into the details perfectly. I finished it with model master enamels and topcoated it with Testors Dulcote.


the photo etch gun covers are a nice upgrade included in the kit

the interior is well stocked but not too complicated,again the fit was perfect

I've always been scared of WW1 stuff, or anything with rigging wires to fit! You've done a great job on this and it looks superb, and, despite its rather disappointing performance at the time, surprisingly 'modern' for something flying less than 15 years after the first flight of the Wright Flyer.


I like the paint job too. Whilst not my paint of choice I've used a few from the Modelmaster range and found them sympathetic to use. You've certainly achieved a lovely finish on this.

Stunning work Trey. The cockpit detail and paint finish are top drawer. Your verdict on the kit only makes me want to build mine more (I have the same Albatros DVa in the stash) and I can only hope mine turns out as good as this.


Am I right in thinking that you have a restrained wood effect on the prop? If so, it is excellent - subtle and very, very authentic.


At the moment I'm working on the 2 Fokker Dr.1s I started an eon ago in the WW1 GB. They're Roden kits and, though probably not up to Wingnut Wings standard, are pretty good.


This is great work Trey and I hope this isn't your last great war build.

Thanks Monica,yes sadly the details get buttoned up,however at least the 2 engine covers can be removed.

Paul thanks for the kind words,yes I toned down the wood effect a bit. Actually the kit has 4 different props so I painted them all and this was the pick of the litter. Looking forward to seeing yours built! The Roden kits are good and build out nicely ,they just take a little more effort than the Wingnut kits.

Excellent looking model. However, rigging scares me as well as some of the others above. I may give it a shot some day, but for now I will leave these types of kits in the more capable hands of others, like yourself.
