I searched google and think it's "Cucumber Green Orb Spider"
WELL Steven does it bite or sting ? as jen was out sunbathing an i see one nr her so i picked up the bit of grass it was on an took it down the garden
chrisb

While not fatal, the bite is painful & the venom can cause an 8" to 10" inflammation. Not one to mess with.

CAN it fly PaulE AS when i see it the first time i brushed it off me but within seconds he was comin back for seconds lol tim is he a wind up merchant then ?

No it can’t fly Chris, no spider can. They don’t have wings. It can bite, that’s how it catches and kills its prey, but it can’t bite you. It’s teeth are minuscule and can’t pierce your skin. It doesn’t have a stinger, so can’t sting you either. I know all of this, yet I’m still scared of the big ones…….

Spiders can’t fly :) There are some that float on the wind a using long length of silk they pay out, but those are generally very small. But almost any spider, when it falls, will quickly throw out a line of silk, which will stick to something nearby (like you) and either use it to get to the ground or to climb back up.

Brown Recluse, Black Widow, & Wolf Spider I know for a fact hurt like hell (although not always immediately) & the venom is poisonous as their effects persist. The Cucumber is not native in areas I habit so I was quoting an internet post (not always reliable).

No probs Paul. All spiders are venomous, by the way, but most of them can’t pierce your skin to deliver the toxins. I came across the Brown Recluse in Oklahoma when I was on holiday. Apparently the bite can develop necrosis around the wound and take at least a year to heal…..

One of the advantages of living in the UK is that we don’t really have any dangerously venomous insects or reptiles. We have a few things that can sting or bite, but they only really cause issues if you have allergies.

Chris that is an Orb Web spider, Cucumber Green Orb Spider - Araniella cucurbitina sensu stricto there are countless varieties of the Orb Web, the best known are the spiders you see with webs in the autumn.

great info JR , amazing looking things arent they ( like Tim , still dont like the big ones !) The patterns are so intricate , we saw a big one on holiday last year in Ibiza and had to take a pic as it looked like it had a little love heart on its back . It had a web that was about 4 foot across between two trees !C9CAA36C-D89A-4E39-AF9B-20C9DC1A7313.jpeg

Whatever you do, don’t put house spiders outside if you capture them. Put them somewhere in the loft or someplace else inside where they can make themselves useful killing the kinds of insects and things you don’t want in your house.

Nuts to that. If he’s that big he’s looking to eat something bigger than flies….he either goes out or goes to spider heaven via a big damn brush…..they are alien I tells ya!!!
