Good evening all.

Hope you're all well. I'm looking to start going to model exhibitions but am not sure which ones are best to go to.

I once went to the big one at Alexandra palace but want to go to more. Can you recommend any to go to?

Thanks

Richard

they do a good one in Torquay every june so im told by the hobby shop owners I know , I haven't been myself but they have said you get good reviews of new tool kits from manufacturers and some great kits on display, ive only been building for a year and I missed last june but hope to go this year.

The biggest one is Shizuoka Model Show, in Japan.

All says is the best on the world, and it's organized by Tamiya...

I wish go there some day ;)

I'm definitely going to Scalemodel world in Telford this year (have started saving as its been said here that its wise to have some spends) I went to a local IPMS show last yet and although it wasn't a big show I really enjoyed it and will definitely be going again this year.

Regards

Chris

Some of the smaller shows are great. I always do the Peterborough show, Hinckley, Brampton show at St Neots and I like the Coventry one held at the air museum. Not be long before the Peterborough show is on. Small but some great models and loads of dealers, I still end up spending too much. Telford would bankrupt me for life! Just getting there and paying for overnight accommodation would cost that much, I would have nothing left to buy stuff with.

i know people will tell you of the bargains and there are a few but I have found prices much the same with what you can get online now. A lot of paints, filler tools etc are cheaper from John than the shows. Having said that, there are the odd kits that you can pick up at a good price but you have to be there early and be prepared to search for them.

I agree with Graham. As much as I really enjoyed Telford last year at my first visit, I can't honestly say I enjoyed it that much more than I enjoy some of the smaller shows, such as Peterborough and Brampton etc.

Nurnberg toy fair next weekend. Thats probably the biggest one in Europe.

RAF Cosford. 7th April....Minutes from the M54 nr. Telford Shropshire. Loads of kits and stuff to slobber over, great static displays, museum and cafe....Excellent day out and free entry, except for £3 for parking.

Where is the one in st neots? That's where I live :-)

Scale Model World in Telford is probably the biggest UK show and well worth a visit. It's not until November so plenty of time to save up :)

Smaller local shows can be fun and often have a lot of good stuff for sale or trade. I'd check the IPMS UK website which used to have a list of its events.

Cheers

Whoops my mistake, it is St Ives for the Brampton show not St Neots, too many saints round here lol. Peterborough is march 2nd. Hinckley is march 24th, may only do peterborough this year though.

I don't think I can make the Peterborough one this year. Have a new baby due 23rd of feb so can't really make any plans :-(

Do you guys often meet up at shows?

Thread owner
congratulations on the baby front, quite a few of us meet up at cosford, see the other thread about shows

Yeah I saw that. It's quite far for me. Probably something my dad would be into coming to aswell so could be possible.

Be nice to meet some of you guys

I like both Telford and Cosford, I always seem to get some really good bargins, mostly on stuff not readily available in shops. I'll shamelessly plug our own little show in Wombourne that we are holding on 1st September at the community hall, clubs stands, traders and a very nice coffee and butty bar :)

Huddersfield Show: huddersfieldshow@gmail.com

Midland Model Expo, Sunday 28 July, 2013. Cocks Moors woods Leisure Centre & Golf Course, Alcester Road South, Kings Heath, Birmingham. B14 6ER, Midland Expo Their literature carries the IPMS logo.

IPMS Barnet's show at the RAF Museum, Hendon

I have no personal info on these.

The telford show is at www.smwshow.com

Cosford is on April 7, RAF Museum, Cosford, Shifnal, Shropshire. TF11 8UP

http://ipmsuk.co.uk/events.php (Lots of dates and venues here.)

When are the Peterborough and Brampton shows, and what are their contact details, please?

I reckon Cosford is the best because:

It's not as big as Telford but the club tables are allowed to sell kits (which they can't do at Telford - probably a H&S issue) which means there are usually some good bargains to be had (although similar bargains can be found on ebay so the savings may not be massive).

So many of us get there it becomes a social occasion as well as a model show.

There is a good selection of real aircraft to look at so there are good opportunities to get some detail pics (although not inside the aircraft unfortunately).

Another vote for cosford here. As dave and ron said its a fantastic show ,in a fantastic museum and apart from the small charge for parking its free!! Its quite a way for you i know , but its worth it , its a 2 hour drive for myself and about the same for ron, scott and andrew. I know this ones a bit of a way for you too but the Newark Expo is a great little show . Its organised by the Lincoln and newark model clubs and is usually around the beginning of october at southwell racecourse ,notts. Its free to park and free entry , with a good selection of club stands and traders and an open to all competition. cheers tony
