This is the glue - around £4 from the supermarket. Was the only glue they had so gave it a try and it worked

with the gate mounted - once glued down it will be more flush to the guiding rails but as nothing is really whole in Aleppo these days it will be full of holes and gaping at one of the bottom corners
will prob detail this further with wiring and bits and bobs....

GF and son out of the house - time to do some bits and bobs around the house

A note about a flag....
Syrian National Council flag painted on the roller gate (SNC is an umbrella organization of diverse rebel groups - secular and religious) it is in progress - when done it will have 3 red stars in the center white band.
Interestingly, using this version of the flag actually sets a period for the dio - this version of the flag was in widespread use from 2015 onwards and also tells an interesting about the the nature of the rebel groups who have held this particular area, as the red stars in the center denotes more secular orientated groups. Hardline Islamic forces
use a version that substitutes the three red stars for the Shahadah - islamic decleration of faith also inked in red.

casting first half of one of the floor sections of the buildings after second half has been poured the whole thing will be shattered - with surgical precision - .....exposing the rebar irons within - here's hoping....

I am aiming for something like this - albeit less extreme...wish me luck...

Got yet another AC unit up - well, not actually running but at least hooked up to utilities
View attachment 327381

Machone AC units come with correct insulated piping and I added some wiring as well
View attachment 327382

Utilities - a lot more wires will connect to this box - including a main coming from a concrete utilities post

Changing the layout

Hello all

needed a break form installing yet another AC unit to the facade. Had good long hard look at my composition and decided I needed to change a few things:
First I expanded the base size to allow more of the back of the buildings to be seen. Enlarging the base also allows me to change the position of the large building to be more forward - facing. That left a huge space in front and it gave me opportunity to create a junction where two roads meet by adding a traffic divider in the front.
Story remains the same but the larger building now has a commanding view over the junction and any troop movements moving up the two roads - which would giver clearer context (well to me that is...) to why it will be so heavily fortified and needed to be "cleared"

Steven .
How many times does a diorama change shape as you start to progress, there's always something that comes to mind resulting in a re think.
Good idea with the thoughts on the change.

thanks for the comments Gents - C&C is always welcomed :smiling4:

Some goodies arrived yesterday from Middle East Modelling Accessories in Lebanon - shop signs for the facade. I like the red one that says "Aleppo Restaurant" for the larger of the two doorways in the large building - I have checked that the BMP -2 does indeed see service in the Aleppo area, so moving the location of the dio would not be a problem.

Since the smaller building is going to be a grocery shop of sorts - one of the signs below - there's no translation of the ones with arabic only text but I guess I will choose one that prominently displays food or soda....

Since the rebs until recently held this area some revolutionary posters are in order

... they might cover or be covered by the picture of this very well - known ophthalmologist...

Strange to see someone in the Lebanon actually making scale modelling parts, good for them.
Some interesting posters there to add some detail and colour .

Well, maybe not IPMS shows are gaining in attendance in the Region and the standard is fairly high (I hold an MA in Middle Eastern history so everything ME interest me and especially when it concerns the hobby :smiling2:)

Building a counter
I digress, a humble attempt at a counter for the convenience store (small building) top and part of the front will be shattered glass (object glass - nasty stuff - not looking forward to that)

Barricading the windows - done - and a faithful decision..

View attachment 328164

I have had a good hard look at the inscribed brickwork and it simply does not pass muster - grout lines are far from straight in certain places and it will show up in the finished version, so the facade will be rendered - a lot of wasted work - but hey, a lesson learned i guess :sad-face:

thanks for looking in

WOW....that is really getting super interesting.... more more MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRREE:smiling::smiling::smiling2::smiling6::smiling6::smiling6:

Steven.
Hi , hope you show some of the brick work by not covering it all up ! .
What are you going to use for the glass, I use plastic from food packaging . Cut in one direction, collecting it up and then placing with a thin PVA mix .
John .

personally for glasses i use real glasses...and you can easily find them and break them to have a super realistic effect.
The glasses i use are the one used for microscopes.. 0.14mm thickness (cover slips for microscope slides)
the only difficult part is to manipulate them and cut them .... for the rest they are really fantastic and super realistic... :smiling2::smiling6:cover-slips-for-microscope-slides-22-x-22-mm-100-pcs_1059_500x500.jpg
