Some great pictures Steve.ive recently read Geoffrey Wellum and W.E.Rolls war memoirs. And I'm currently reading Hugh Dundas book,so I find these pictures of great interest.

I think it's safe to say they were quite busy at the time

There is another series of the same squadron taken in France (earlier obviously) but I can't find it. I've got a few on my HD and the aircraft look a bit fresher.

These LIFE photos are fantastic aren't they? I have them on my phone, there are photographs covering all sorts of famous events in history.

The Hurricane unit depicted in those LIFE pictures is No.85 Squadron. The 'unidentified' pilot in photo 15 is Flight Lieutenant Richard 'Dicky' Lee. Lee was posted as MIA on 18 August 1940 after being lost over the sea pursuing German aircraft. The pilot in the white overalls in photo 14 is Sergeant Pilot J.H.M Ellis. He was lost on 1 September 1940, and his loss was also under mysterious circumstances which were solved in 1992/93. Ellis had been shot down a few days prior to the day of his death, on 28 August.
