what is the best paint to use for my ships propellers thanks.

sorry yes I would prefer acrylic and its hand brush

Vallejo have an acrylic brass colour, but it isnt anywhere near the same as Mr Hobby buffable brass or alclad brass!

I use the Mr Hobby one as well, though its not acrylic, have you tried the Citadel one that's what I used to use and thought its a decent paint.

You need Bronze for Ships Propellers....... and generally they aint shiny.

Peter has a good point. One of the ships I worked on carried a spare prop' on deck, it was a very dull dark colour.

I would use the Mr Metal brass, or alternatively AK have their wax based brass colour, True Metal (not acrylic) so you will need to use turps to clean the brush or use a disposable applicator - being wax based you can actually paint it on with a finger or even a cotton bud. Metallics are not great in acrylic.


One further thought about the Mr Metal. These are not enamel and are acrylic based but you do not thin or clean with water. Use i.p.a. or a Mr Hobby thinner. These are superb metallics, among the best and can be use by brush or airbrush.

Try the games workshop paints ( citadel miniatures) as adrian suggested , they have some fantastic metal colours and are water based acrylics , i would go for a dark bronze maybe muckied up with some very dark green , tony
