Yes the deadeys are the wrong way up sorted

outstanding progress Brian. Before you glue all these parts together at the lower mast head just check if you need to mount the shrouds for the lower mast since they normally loop over the mast head before the top mast is installed. Just for accuracy they also had a wedge inserted between the front of the lower mast and the boards of the top called a FID.
Also there were special blocks mounted on the mast to support the JEERS (JEARS) which carried the large blocks to support the yard. You might also need to rig the fore and backstays before the top mast is fitted.



You probably have these details in your rigging book so don't hesitate to let me know if you don't need them.

Thanks John your input is always welcome and I find it most helpfull, the shrouds are made up as a single length and past around the mast head creating a double shroud If thats what you mean? also my instructions say a fid is not required (not sure what it does I thought it was a sort of pin to stop the mast dropping)
I do have the info in the book I have but always like being reminded

More progress, It's slow having to wait for stuff I could start the main mast but I'm not at all good at multitasking



I had to remove the bottom banding to get the photo etch ring to fit (Tomorrow)
The painting guide "the top masts are painted black" everywhere I look there painted yellow or plain wood whats correct?

no Neil the hull is finished just the ships boats to go across the black beams deciding whether to fit them or not they will block the view of the guns

They were plain varnished wood when I visited Portsmouth in 2011, but it's anybodies guess what colour they were at Trafalgar.

Thats the problem well if there varnished wood I won't be rubbing them down I could paintthem walnut/yellow ochreI have the admiralty coulours

I have usually seen the top mast and the TOP GALLANT mast sections left as varnished wood or perhaps painted the ochre color. The part that fits into the main top and the cross trees are usually painted black as you have them. The WOLDING ( thats the bands around the mast) I have usually seen as tarred rope (Black) in most ships.

Thanks John I will paint them yellow ochre and as for the banding I too thought they were rope but according to the dockyard in portmouth thay are metal straps painted the same yellow ochre as the masts

Looking again at Victory I think the wolding was indeed metal rings that were painted ochre as you have them.
