Scale Model Shop

Good to see you're off again. I don't think the model company scrimped on the pins. They probably expected people to remove the pins after the initial gluing was dried and to replace them with small scale Tree Nails. In other words very thin wood dowels drilled and glued where the pins were. You can do this by using thin wooden tooth picks, or by using a draw bar to thin down kebab skewers. No matter everyone has their own way of doing it.
