Here's a few pictures. Much info in the build thread for those interested.

This is an early version of the famous Bf 109, the most modelled aircraft of all time apparently. It is in the colours of an aircraft of 6./JG 26 'Schlageter' which was one of the two oldest units of the Luftwaffe with roots in JG 134 (heavily involved in the re-occupation of the Rhineland and in Spain) and by various amalgamations and redesignations JG 234, JG 132 (which received the honorific Schlageter) before finally becoming JG 26 on 1st May 1939.

This aeroplane is seen in the late summer of 1939, before the war, and is in the standard camouflage of the day. The white distinctive markings were probably applied for ease of recognition during immediate pre-war exercises involving the Luftwaffe and Army.

Very nice indeed Steve. A very close in colour two tone camouflage which looks very nice on a model.

Bet they soon got rid of the white markings. With an enemy fighter above they must have stood out like a sore thumb. Perhaps in Spain they were always on top and it mattered less. But over Britain against the green fields it would have been a great disadvantage.

I do like models against a back ground as here they look so much more authentic.

That's really nice Steve - it's good to see something in pre-war pristine condition!

Thanks for the positive response!

I don't know what's next. I might be able to squeeze the 1/72 Ju 88 that Polux sent me after Xmas and before the first tour of next year. I only have one 1/32 model in the stash and that's a Tamiya P-51 which could take all year at the rate I'm going these days!

I like the idea of a nice pristine pre-war aeroplane. The Luftwaffe were vey proud of their new machines....and they were the only service to wear a neck tie. Luftwaffe men were given the nick name 'Schlipssoldaten' because of this. Anyone who wears a tie will polish his aeroplane :)

Excellent build and it really is nice to see a pre-war aircraft.

A good build, and a nice drop of history to go with it.

Not, not!!!

A 1/32 build will be better Steve!!! Sorry, was my mistake to send this small item...will pay more attention next time

Can I ask which one will be your 1/24 entry item...? :) :) :)

The little Ju 88 looks very nice, and it won't take months to build :)

I'm not sure about the 1/24 entry. I don't really fancy wrestling with one of the old Airfix kits which only really leaves one of the Trumpeter kits. I like the look of the Hurricane(s), but maybe I should stick to what I know at such a large scale, which means one of the Luftwaffe options.

Very, very nice Steve. Strange to see the swastika split across the fin and rudder. Great build.

I think the Luftwaffe thought so too. It was soon moved to the more familiar position, entirely on the fin. This led to some interesting juxtapositions in 1940 when replacement rudders, or in this case the fin and stabiliser assembly, were fitted.

Cheers and thanks again for the nice comments

That is a great result Steve. Immaculate paint as usual together with an 'unusual' scheme.

That picture you just posted would make an interesting build....

Beautifully built , presented ,photographed ,chosen and researched . I love it. Its always a real treat to see your builds Steve , the choice of subject here is very refreshing - a pre war 109 with rarely modelled camo . The scheme reminds me very much of the RAAF camo , even down to the white tail, i think it really suits the 109's shape. great build matey , cheers tony
