I finally got this finished tonight just in time for the monthly IPMS club night - it was still drying on the way there! The final touches were the HF aerial wires using thin thread and two blade aerials that really didn't want to be on the back of The Mighty Hunter.

So here it is, Nimrod MR2 XV235 as she returns to her parking bay after a long range SAR sortie. one liney is marshalling her (with the orange sleeves) while another does wingtips. A third liney bimbles nonchalantly over with his goretex jacket open and hands in his pockets. Strictly speaking there should be a crew chief to supervise the see-in but he's off scene.

After an AF/BF flight servicing XV235 will be de-roled from her SAR configuration and handed over to Aircraft Maintenance Flight (AMF) for a Minor maintenance check.

This was a long winded affair, I started it ages ago but finally got my dander up to finish it. The kit is not without flaws and these are well documented. In the photos below you can see the scratch made pitot probes to replace the massively oversized kit ones. I should have done a Q feel probe for the starboard side below the pitot probe but I couldn't motivate myself to make one.

The baseboard was home made and is based on the parking bays at RAF Kinloss. As described in the build thread, I have modelled electrical cabinets, chocks, waste fuel bins on a pallet, fire extinguisher and 60 KVa Houchin GPU that are typically found on the pan at Kinloss.

I hope you enjoyed following the build thread and maybe you'll be inspired to have a go at one of these kits hiding in your cupboard.

It came second in the IPMS club night vote - very happy.

Really excellent build job, have been impressed all the way through this build, with the detail work you have put into it, well done it has come out superbly.

Beautiful build Rick, detail is top notch, as would be expected from you and all your work. I hope it went down well at IPMS-it should have.

Si:)

That is well nice. Deserved of the second place. I would love to see the one that beat it!!!

Great work Rick.

Beautiful job Rick. I remember when I worked near Dyce, the Nimrods would come in for a dummy landing then put on the power and climbed and turned at the same time leaving a black smoke trail Made the building vibrate; a great show of power. Derek

Awesome work Rick it's been a great build log topped off with the pictures of the completed kit

I loved my time working on them at Kinloss. I used to live on the seafront at Lossiemouth and they'd fly along the coast from the east on a long approach to the runway. They were noisy though, especially when they were doing rollers and circling the airfield for an hour. Sadly it's a sound we won't hear in the sky anymore.

That's an excellent build Rick - I love the Nimrod, seeing the graceful lines of the Comet combined with the muscular looks of it's military partner.

Oh yes a brilliant pristine model very nice indeed Rick. As Patrick has said the beauty of the lines of the Comet. That lovely nose shape.

Proud model of a proud aircraft. That will look good on the shelf.

Enjoyed watching this one come together. The result is a great looking Nimrod with a very good setting. All round great build Rick, like Ian, wondering what beat it, because this is tops.

I can't actually remember what the winner was but it was streets ahead of my effort, the standard of models at the club I attend is exceptional. I'll post a link to it when the club website is updated.

Thanks for all the comments about this build and I'm really chuffed to hear that it had a decent number following and showing an interest. I hope that you all found it rewarding and inspiring, thanks for allowing me to share it with you all.

I have two more in the stash and the next one will be a totally different build....whenever that might be!

I learned a lot about the Nimrod from your build Rick. Will watch out for your photo of the model that pipped you to the first place, it must be out fo this world.
