Compressor leak.

They are quality. The don't have a tank but Iwata seems to have overcome any pressure pulsing and they are very quiet and compact. When I bought my Sparmax I would have liked the Iwata but it was a fair bit more expensive. Should have bitten the bullet 🙄
Its was Jim, but I just thought buy the best and hope ! A strange thing, it all ways keeps the pressure right, just pulsing every now and again.
 
I actually run mine with two pressure reducing valves. One on the compressor , set to 40psi, and a second one up on the airbrush stand, which I adjust as required. This completely eliminates any tendency for the airflow to pulse. Also eliminates the need to dive under the desk to adjust the pressure as required, because that was impossible given my recent state of health.
 
I’ll take some pictures later to show you what I mean soon John. It’s quite simple though. The PRV on the compressor is set to 40. There is a hose from that PRV to the second PRV, which is mounted on the airbrush stand. That second PRV is used to adjust user pressure, and the outlet from that second PRV goes to the airbrush. The second PRV works, in effect, like a more sophisticated MAC valve, controlling air flow via pressure, rather than just air flow through a variable hole.

I do very similar. Leave the compressor pressure set, higher than I would ever use, and adjust the pressure at the airbrush using a MAC valve. OK the MAC valve doesn't do exactly the same as a pressure reducing valve but it works fine for me. I don't actually know the pressure I'm working at but adjust until I get the spray I want so to me the actual pressure is unimportant - just so it works fine.

Just for those that don’t know Jim, MAC valves control airflow, not pressure. However, as I said right at the start, we all do this differently, and what works for us, works for us 😄.

My set up uses a very similar principle to Tim's so I hope the two of you don't mind me including pictures of it.

Compressor in its soundproof cupboard, with the regulator set to something like 40 psi. It uses the tubular handle as a small receiver / "tank" by the way .

The black hose then runs up to another trap/regulator, within easy reach, so I can adjust the pressure quickly, then through the blue hose to my 'brush .

One advantage of the way Tim and Andy do it is that their PRV is within easy reach but not attached to the ab. My MAC is attached to the ab itself and is not a problem - 90% of the time. Occasionally though it's a nuisance having it part of the airbrush.
