I;ve been occupied bymy 3D printing, and I find that I've hardly made any kits this year, so, after my presentmodel parts have finished printing, I;m going to crck the box on this:

It's been sitting in my stash for a couple of years, and the GB seems to be the ideal time to blow the dust off it & find my bottle of Contacta.
I'll be putting up the usual sprue, instructions etc tomorrow, I hope
Dave

Good luck with your build Dave, I’m interested to see how this goes together so will follow along with interest :thumb2:

Geoff.

Nice choice dave , its a good kit by all accounts , just a bit of a glitch with the engine cowling , its way too open at the front edge apparently. There are aftermarket cowlings to correct this but maybe you could put your 3d expertise to the test and print your own ?looking forward to seeing this one , cheers tony

Not being a rivet counter & not being familiar with the plane, I think I'll let things pan out straight from the box........................

Ah, A TURRET !! Obviously this has grabbed my attention Dave :thumb2: ,
(Still looks remarkably like a Dauntless to me!! ;)).

DOH!! Schoolboy error there Dave!!
Got the two mixed up....built both for the Pacific GB...
You're right,I did actually mean the Avenger!! :confounded: :tears-of-joy:

Comes in the usual Zvezda box-in-a-box, the back of the box has rather uninspiring pics of an assembled unpainted model

transparencies & decals

All sprues are clean & crisp, no flash, or sink marks, ejector pins in hidden places.
Instructions - usual Zvezfa b&w folded paper sheets, they need careful study, but everything is there

I'll be putting up detail shots in part II

The Su-2 had a wood fuselage, metal wings...........

I think the rivetting may a bit overdone

I don't think these workaday aircraft had many additional markings.
Options are, open bomb bay, or bombs under wings - cockpit & turret open or closed.
Not a well known aircraft, over 900 were built, but were obsolute by 1942
Looks well engineered, the only area that may cause problems is the turret glazing, but I think that when you have the bits in your hand it may become apparent.

That looks rather a nice kit Dave. Those rivets on the wing are definitely prominent but their appearance may well tone down with painting and weathering.

That's looking like a good kit there Dave.

Will look forward to seeing this come together. Thanks for taking part.

Finally off and running.......................
DSCF4659.JPG
Wing halves joined - pretty good fit, but I doubt if that pitot tube will last the course!
Engine - no less than 22 parts, the fit is good, but definitely a tweezer & hold your breath assembly. primed ready for detail paint
I have to decide whether to have the turret open, and the rear decking raised, or the turret closed & the rear decking lowered ( similar to the Defiant ). You have to decide early, as the bits fit inside the fuselage - one of those things to ponder over.

I've been working on this off and on - not taking any pictures - but the internal detail can't be seen anyway

Fuselage just closed up - seams need a little seeing to. Fit is very good, the only problem is removing tiny pieces from the sprues. Engine / firewall just dry fotted

Sorry for the late reply Dave. That's coming on very nicely!

A little more work...................... The engine cowling is a nasty little 5 piece assembly, which needed a smear of iller on the most visable loint on the top

The cowling is a tight fit over the engine, I had to grind off parts of the rocker covers to get it to fit. I had the first loss to the carpet monster - the exhaust stub pinged off whilst dry fitting the cowling. It's only an angled tube, so replacement isn't a problem,

Coming on nicely Dave....I have managed to lose the pedals from my Yak. No idea where they went.... and we have a hard floor!
