DaveCov's Pyro 1/16 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide (M-157-125)

Coming together nicely Dave 😊

I’ve never seen a jig for bikes before, it looks a useful piece of kit.

Thanks lads (y)

Unfortunately, I have discovered that I had assembled the front forks wrongly and they would not fit to the frame correctly.

To correct the problem, I had to rip the headlamp assembly apart:

I reassembled and repainted the headlamp assembly and removed the paint from the forks and brake drum as they had suffered a lot of damage during the fixing of the problem:

Forks have been repainted:

They were then glued to the headlamp assembly:

The front wheel was fitted to the forks along with the mudguards. I also glued the Front Roll Bar to the frame:

That is all for now

For some reason your pictures are not showing Dave so I am commenting without viewing them. Thats a real shame about the front forks. From your description I am assuming that things turned out well after the corrective work. Well done on that.

Thanks Steve. (y)

I had uploaded images that hadn't been reduced in size so that may explain why you couldn't see them. I have resized them to 1000x750 so you should see them now.

Glad you were able to fix the error. Looking at the photos it looks like a very neat fix.

Thanks everybody. (y)

I have made more progress with the rear roll bars and exhaust glued in place. The exhaust is making it difficult to fit the right hand foot rest but I will get there. The tank and seat are both dry-fitted at the moment but both need some more painting before they are glued:

On the left side, I have glued the foot rest but it took a lot of aggro before it would fit correctly:

A lot of touching up needed on the paintwork, especially the chrome as I keep touching it whilst fighting to fit parts!

There are two things that I am pondering with this build. The first is dealing with the lack of cables, leads etc. To be honest I really don't to bother but the handlebars won't look right without something in place.

The second thing I am not sure about is whether to fit the hard saddlebags/panniers, one of which is dry-fitted at present:

Great rescue with the forks and headlight dave , its looking great now . Personally I would put the panniers on , its that classic electraglide look and the brake levers would definitely benefit from a couple of cables . Cheers tony

Thanks again, everybody. (y)

I masked off the mudguards so that they could be chromed. I also masked off the windshield so that could be painted Aluminium:

Headlamp glass has been refitted. Side lights and rear lights glued in place. Windshield has been painted. I didn't like the stark white panniers so I am painting them Ivory and have started with their lids. I will put a couple of cables on but that will be the final thing, after varnishing:

That is all for now but I am hoping that my next build report will be the final one.

Thank you Joe (y)

Well, this build has continued to fight me and at one time I considered consigning it to the Shelf of Doom. However, I kept going.

The last few items have been glued in place, apart from the hard saddlebags and aerial:

Another view. I still need to fit a couple of cables:

I painted some stretched sprue and glued them to the levers. One went to the front brake drum and the other to the approximate location of the clutch. The hard saddlebags are still undergoing painting in an ivory colour:

I have glued the hard saddlebags in place, using a cocktail stick to hold the left one at the right angle. The telegraph pole sized aerial has also been fitted. I could have replaced it with brass rod but I wanted this build to represent the model, not the real-life subject:

You can see the "cables" more clearly in this shot:

It is now finished. The paint tin shows just how small this bike is:

More photos will appear in due course.

Thanks again to @Geoffers for hosting this GB.

I’m really glad you persevered Dave, that’s a cracking little bike 👍

I can just imagine it driving down a lonely desert highway in Nevada 😊

Geoff.
