How's this for extreme modelling.

See video below, starts with a few stills before a flight demo

Cheers Derek

It is a beautiful aircraft and looks and sounds superb. I know naff all about RC aircraft and admire the guys that build and fly them, for £11,000 I would be terrified to fly it! Of course it will be insured but still. Great video, enjoyed watching that.

Did you notice at 4.39 it was actually in re-heat, or a very good facsimile of it and the sound was very impressive as well.

As an ex R/C builder and flyer that was impressive, especially the greaser of a landing. :D :D

Gregg

WOW!! that looks amazing , really takes me back to seeing the real thing at finningley in the 70's , i can almost hear the ear splitting sound of those 2 avons ripping the sky

Hmmm How to get that past the door keeper...

Most impressive

I must say as an ex rc guy myself I would have been very nervous landing it it is a beauty and the noise was fantastic the jet engines in these jets are works of art in them selves thanks for the link

Anyone go to the 'Last Great Lightning Show' at RAF Binbrook .

If you did, you will remember the atrocious weather that befell that day.

Of any shows I went to, this was to me, going to be the ultimate. As it would be the end of an all British designed and built front line fighter.

It also turned out to be only the second show I had ever visited, that I had problems with my 35mm SLR.

These are the only photo's I managed to salvage, not brilliant but my only record of that day.

World renowned R/C jet pilot and builder!

Simple...get a divorce and get your own place...oh, hang on, that would mean that in the end you couldn't afford to buy the thing...back to the drawing board.

If you built one yourself Ian, you'd only need to bring in lots of small boxes. Your missus would probably think it's only aftermarket stuff for your stash.

Once it's built of course, you might have problems smuggling it out. Hang on a second though. You're looking for a new house right? You could always build a hatchway through the roof as part of your 'renovation' work!

So no excuses now. Go on! You know you want to!

There are lights in the end of the nozzles to create the effects of an afterburner. Very clever and very effective. He must be a very confident and competent pilot to fly so close to so many trees. When you think though you could probably buy two reasonable condition second hand cars for that money I really can't see how you can justify the cost.

I have a friend who was into jet fighters while I flew ww1 planes and a work colleague asked if he could bring in and fly his f16 jet which he dually did 1 Sunday morning everything went ok for a while when the engine started to malfunction , he was bringing it round to land in the car park when it went out of control and went through a chain link perimeter fence like a tree into a shredder and it was reduced to a thousand pieces -we all went very quiet after that

Luckily my RC boats haven't been lost at sea yet...had one partially sink but managed to get it back to shore before the electrics cut out. That was bad enough, but helicopters, planes...oh, no, they would be wrecked even if they didn't have any malfunctions.

He and his father are well renowned R/C builders/flyers, and many a film we may have watched would probably have featured many of their creations.

Many years ago (80's) I was a member of a local R/C club when the guy who built the large scale model aircraft for the film 'Empire In The Sun', brought a couple of the stand ins that were not used in the film. He also brought the P51 which was about 1/8th scale, I hadn't realised that it was not all the shots in the film were the real thing. From what I have read they also built a very large scale B29 that has been used in several productions.

They earn their monies from their very successful model supplies business and film work.

A case of enjoying your work & getting paid for it!

I used to enjoy my building/flying, it was the landings I could never master (well not without extreme damage)

My girls used to ask if I was going flying at the weekend and could they come. Thinking I had got them interested, they would follow up with.

We like to see you crash them.

One incident (non r/c) involved a vey long careful build of a Kiel-Kraft Hawker Hunter with Jetex motor. :)

A family trip to Beverley Westwood with my pride and joy, carefully loading the jetex with the pellets, wick & gauze.

A frustratingly long time to get the motor to ignite, gentle under arm launch it went soaring up in a gentle curved climb.o_O Then a beautiful starburst when it reached the apex of it's climb, I managed the retrieve the jetex shell after much flaming balsa and tissue fluttering down. :( :(

One of the stories they like to belittle their father with at family gatherings.

They have many more of my model flying/crashing stories but I'll save them for now

Great story Gregg. I once started a balsa and tissue build for a Jetex engine when I was a teenager but never got around to finishing it. From what you say it was probably just as well!

All part of learning though!

Now I did have one sink at Kirklees, that's an interesting story!
