Hi all, attached are a few photos of my latest effort. Details are in the 'under construction' section. Not sure how the exhaust comes out this colour in the photos its a lot quieter in the flesh. I found it a difficult aircraft to weather, so am not entirely happy with the results. The near invisible 179 decals are the correct contrast but still disappointing in view of the work involved. The smoked canopy came out well I thought. Hope you enjoy viewing. Cheers Derek

Very nice !

The decals must have tested your patience! LOL

Hi Theuns. yes it was very trying, especially when the results were near invisible. There were no panel lines on the delta wing, so the model turned out very bland. The problem I had with the Humbrol Acrylic and its subsequent removal certainly dampened my enthusiasm. Overall not one of my better efforts. Am doing some research on the next one - the Tornado ADV (F3), might get started next week. Cheers Derek

179 decals to put on it :busted_red: now that amount of decals to put on is very tiresome. Your Eurofighter was well worth the effort in putting on all the 179 decals. Trumpeter makes a 1/32nd version i'm now put off...lol

Hi Ian, I am banned by the boss from purchasing any more 1/32's unless I build an annex to store them. I did see the build of the Trumpeter Eurofighter featured in a magazine, very detailed lots of panel lines and rivets etc. If I could build another 1/32 I think it would be the Trumpeter Tomcat, looks mean and dirty, as it is I have the Hasegawa 1/72 Tomcat F-14B in my stash, which i will be building after the Tornado ADV. Thanks for viewing. Cheers Derek

Very nice and clean build. I must confess as to not having read the build log (yet). But 179 Decals!!!! WHERE? I can see like ten! You must have the patience of a saint and the hands of a surgeon. failing that a very good bottle of Scotlands finest (or Irelands).

Remind me not to buy one of those. Dont get me wronge, just not my cup of tea.

Hi Ian, I must confess I look at the kit and wonder why did I bother. If you look at the build, there are two photos in the last posting showing the colour contrast between the real thing and the model, which explainns why they are difficult to see. Thanks for viewing. Cheers Derek

Nice result derek Well done. I must admit ,the number of tiny stencils on the HUGE decal sheet for the revell 1/48 typhoon in my stash is frightening and probably explains why ive not plucked up the courage to start it yet!!! Great job on this one though , looking forward to the tornado, cheers tony

I bet we've all done/made models and glossed the area's were the decals should go only after you have slid them off the 'backing paper' onto the model you notice that they can hardly be seen ! my last model build like that made me only apply the decals to the upper half and i thought.. sod the underside no one can see it.... lol

I am with you on that one Ian lol. Yep, it is right to put them all on no matter what and kudos to Derek for sticking with it. I just don't have the dexterity, eyesight or patience.

OH MY GOSH!

Just had a look at the photos in the build. The darn thing is covered in them!!!

One thing did strike me as rather funny. All those markings and stencils in Lo-vis and then those rather bold and bright yellow & Green flashes....... :-/

cudos for your hard work and effort Derek.

Hmmmmm single malts from the local distileries... Brings back a few memories of a whisky night with 20 bottles of very exclusive (£80+ a bottle) scotches....

Thanks all, problem with the decals is that although most people would not know any were missing, I would. Now Ian M don't get me started on Malts. Cheers Derek

It's a great model, you have done a really good job, but your a touch dissapointed. Maybe it's the subject, after all a low viz paint scheme is exactly that. ergo, you have produced a brilliant replica (scale wise) of the real thing !! See, a total success.

Hi Colin, thanks for the encouragement, my disappointment was mainly in having to strip off the Humbrol paint, I don't think a models surface fully recovers from this, or maybe its just me. I have just started my next model the Hobby Boss Tornado ADV, which is also low-vis, it hasn't nearly the decals, and I might tweek the colours to make it look more interesting. There is more scope for heavy weathering as the Tornado's get very dirty in service. Thanks again Derek

In the giant stash of three models I have on order, one is a revell 1:72 Tornado, GR1 I think and so camo. Which scale is the hobby boss? dare we do a side by side comparison of the two models ?

Regards

Colin m.......

I've just had a skip through this and think it's turned out very well. Low vis is...well....low vis lol. You are one of many people who seem to have had problems with the Humbrol acrylic paints. I don't want to seem like a Humbrol basher but I'd check out some alternatives. There are many good ones out there,it's just a matter of finding the one(s) that suit you best.

Cheers

Colin, The Hobby Boss is 1/48 scale. Your Revell 1/72 GR1 was the first model i made when I returned to the hobby. You'll be amazed at the surface detail, not only recess panel lines all over but rivets as well. The kit cockpit is a bit sparse. Cheers Derek

Hi Steve, thanks for viewing. The Humbrol paint was a bit of an impulse buy, I new I was getting the Eurofighter for x-mas, saw the Barley Grey on the tin and bought it. I'm sure the problem was down to me and not the paint. I have used Tamiya, Lifecolor and Gunze acrylics with no problem in the past, so as you say will stick to what I know in the future. Cheers Derek
