Well chaps,
I've meandered across. Feels a bit odd but in for a penny....
Looking forward to revitalising some of the old creative nonsense with you all
Andy

Hi Gern,
John said some thing about groats... Or was he calling me an old goat. Ahh the joys of going deaf in my old age....
Andy

Jim .
No way would I go. Had a look around, some people complaining about pages that jump around, and lots of in depth discussion's, seems a very cold site. Each to their own I suppose.

John.

It's just good to be here, thanks for everyone's support.
We were told to keep the standard low so we don't intimidate anyone... lol

I’m with Jim I’m here to stay. I will be posting my civilian truck builds car, and military here. I also have a nice HO and O scale WIP train layout. I’m glad I was invited here by John “Commander Race” so be looking for different subjects from me.

I am unsure of why some are against Dolittle and ML? I'm pretty sure that I will make this my new 'home' as all my friends are here, but could you explain (with as little venom as possible please) what people have against the other side?

Hi Andy

I think that part is emotion: being a favourite magazine and more importantly forum is taken over by another party which doesn't want to continue to support the forum. Now I must say that's not all, from what I heard for instance Doolittle are very bad paymentwise to contributors of their magazines, they have a very bad reputation it seems (often don't pay or very late).
ML is good if you want to see amazing work. A lot of the top brass of the modelling world share their work there, but the old ML forum was a very archaic one in style and it was less friendly to beginners. Lot's of people who take the hobby serious there (not that it's a bad thing per se) but there can be quite the rivet counting and people who's work which isn't perhaps the best out there can get perhaps quite the negative comments.
But it is a valuable source of information with lot's of people with knowlegde.
Hope that makes a bit sense

Cheers

Hi Andy,
Firstly I don't want to start a long debate about either Doolittle or ML, personally I have nothing against Doolittle other than the circumstances of the change over I think the subscribers of Military Modelling as customers should have been treated better and I don't think Doolittle are to blame as much as My time media I actually buy the other magazine already and I like it although it is not as diverse in content as MM, I fully understand the upset caused to all members of the Military Modelling Forum on being given such short notice of its closure and the loss of all their work and references As regards MIssing Lynx it is a great source of inspiration and references, there are some brilliant modellers on there, but it does not nuture someone new to the hobby or someone not producing pieces to the high standards of their members, I have read critique on there that was far from constructive, therefore it's not really somewhere I would post on. As a final note we are all human beings and as a species we don't like change paticulary in something that effects our out of work time.
Jim

This may be being discussed elsewhere, but are you aware that Simon H is making frantic efforts to keep the old forum alive under a new banner. It's only fair that if we are not going back that we warn him to safe his time. If you have no intention of going back please make it clear to him. Your usernames etc. are still alive for now.

Well, my intention is to stay here, wether the old forum remains or not. But if it will continue to exist I will stay posting there as well. Too much good memories to drop it ^^

I also intend to stay here. It may be a Mil Mod lounge, but it will still be part of Missing Lynx, which I just can't get on with. I like it here!

Quite simply ML will not allow it to continue in anything like the old format. It will not be a forum. It will just be a place where old MilMod mates can stay in touch - that I can do here and also make new friends.
Jim

Well as every body is having a say.:smiling2:
I am not a top modeler and maybe never will, but the support I have had on here with modeling and over my eye is what makes me want to stay among some of the nicest people I have ever met .
john .

as a non MM member im finding this thread an interesting read

you wont find any rivet counting going on here unless you specifically ask for it in 'critique corner'......and personally im allergic to rivet counters

you will find SM simply a place for people who want to build models for the enjoyment of it......dosnt matter what your skill level is, as long as you have fun thats the important thing......theres always someone to help or advise, never put down or humiliate.......i aint the greatest modeller in the world, after all these years i still learn something new with every kit i do, but i do it for me, not any one else

i hope a lot of you stay and integrate with us, and become established members and enjoy your time here

Thanks Paul, that's exactly the ethos we're looking for - rivet counting only if you want it and loads of help and encouragement. ML sadly seems to have an elitist a combative slant - not for me.
