I don't know what I can really add to this thread but I like different films for different reasons.
'Saving Private Ryan' has got to be up there if only for the opening landing craft scene, which in my opinion, is now a classic piece of cinema. This film single handedly raised the bar in terms of realism and reinvented the war film genre.
Ice Cold in Alice is an absolutely great film and makes me thirsty every time - John Mills really enjoys that beer at the end!
Zulu, Great Escape, A Bridge too Far, Bridge over the River Kwai have great performances from Caine, McQueen, Hopkins, Guinness etc
(The bit where the army fires in ranks in Zulu would make a brilliant model)
I also like the more modern stuff: Black Hawk Down, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket
Another great film is the old black and white 'All Quiet on the Western Front'
It's very difficult to choose a favourite but if pressed I'll go for 'Ryan' for reasons mentioned earlier.
Cheers Paul
BTW, there's dozens, possibly hundreds, of modelling opportunities contained in these films!
