Tibbs., how is clicking an icon ' a large part of the site interaction '? Surely it's a very small part of what happens on here?
I think the thrust of Rons point was to encourage written interaction, which can be more helpful than any 'gong ' & of greater use to the OP.
Im well guilty of just throwing the GB gong around..... Hands up " shoot me".... But like i said earlier, it just shows i took the time to look and appreciate the effort made whatever the skill level, but generally always leave comment as well....... I dont have the skill level or experience to criticise the efforts of others, and would leave that to those that do.

As for how is it an interaction..... It shows other members what you are thinking or feeling without having to use written text... Why write "i agree with that" when you can just click an icon

Wow..... Do you think people really count their gongs and then compare them to others.. That's just sad. To me there just a harmless way of saying I took the time to look and well done.... I certainly wouldn't cry myself to sleep if I didn't get one.... Shouldn't be treated as a judges panel
Agreed.

I was shocked to see only the like gong left, however...im just glad I'm not on a sort of gong ban like I thought.

I can see Ron's main point,

however unlike tonight when I have quite a lot of spare time, I usually I only have time to browse, and click the appropriate icon for some thing that I like.

The skill level on this site is amazing, and I don't feel I posses enough experience compared to many others, so only leave the occasional comment.

Just my slant on the subject.

Well there goes a large part of the site interaction...... All done in under 12 hours based on the opinions of a handfull of people..... Not even a vote..... They really are just a harmless form of interaction which some people obviously take to seriously.
So now we are just going to get a collection of "likes" very boring. As so many people liked to use them I cannot for the life of me depriving members the opportunity of using them.

As has been said if you do not like them do not use them.

Being able to "agree" with a previous post was really handy. Can we please have the agree gong back?

But wasn't the issue of them being over-used? Let's have nice comments instead of just clicking an icon :)

Agree with Aaron, this saved repetitive comments or variations thereof. But hey ho, first world problems eh.

I would have agreed with this..... But i couldnt:p:)

I miss them all, I thought they were great and it seems that it has been over analysed. Why didn't we just add a good effort gong as well then there would be less great builds ones. It seems like you could either say amazing or meh, gold silver or bronze would do. We are surely all able to take it like grown ups if we are told things could be improved or are ok but not great.

Bring em back!

Having given this some thought and the general nature of this forum I don't think removing the doodabs will have any impact on people posting or not

We still have the like button so that will be used instead and the great build , i don't think the doodabs made people lazy I just think people gave them as there was nothing else to add and they didn't want to be sounding like a repeating record also I think it was a way to show appreciation if they didn't have time to post

Get rid or keep I doubt it will make people post more or less

Well after a good nights sleep and time to reflect on all the icons disappearing I feel they should now be reinstated as it's blatantly obvious they are missed by many myself included (sad face here)and the forum doesn't seem the same without them.To what seems like the few people who didn't like them please just ignore them if they do manage to get reinstated and text away to your hearts content. No icons will certainly effect my number of posts as I have limited free time as I have a full time job and I used to drop in an icon a few simple worlds and move onto the next thread.Dougies idea of gold silver and bronze medals is great.BRING THEM BACK KEEP THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE HAPPY (smilie face here)

There is another factor in this to be considered, people who suffer from dyslexia! Predictive and spellcheck can only help so much so a simple doodab can help here , some people are very weary from posting onboards like this as there are a lot of English teachers out there that believe spelling and grammar should always be used and they can get quite nasty

I don't think that will happen here but not everyone knows this and they might be cautious

My initial post was just to point out how the 'Great build' was being over used, that's all. It didn't bother me if it stayed or went.

Regarding the other doodahs. The removal of them was admins. decision. My first post didn't mention them.

My motive for raising the subject were nothing to do with gong hunting, as some posts seem to imply. I was simply trying to highlight the problem of possible 'over use'

My suggestion were eventually twisted out of all proportion by some from what I originally wrote and eventually became lost.

However, I'll of course go with whatever is decided in the vote, and if the Administration agrees with the result, I'm sure they will do what is right for this forum.

It really has blown up a bit from what was a simple suggestion to review something really quite trivial, to me reading one or two slightly unpleasant remarks.

Me? I've got a tank to wreck!
