Its been a while now but Ive been quietly gathering bits for this very personal build . In the style of our great mate Ron I intend to totally knacker this poor little grey Fergie and build a barn/ outbuilding to put it in , surrounded by all sorts of detritus . To this end ive got me a cheap die cast 1/43 ferguson T20 and a heap of stuff ( btw , the stuff in the bag isnt wacky baccy , its Dock flowers )
Ive yet to figure out how I’m going to do it but in the style of the great man himself I’ll just make it up as I go along .

Now got me thinking, maybe something to rekindle the modelling. Ron was a good friend, esp as an ex-wood butcher.

Just ordered a 1/24 Heller Fergie from E bay.

Wacky-baccie, bits of corrugated card, a Tunnock wrapper, some coffee stirrers and no idea where this is going. Now that's definitely go Ron written all over it.

Nice idea Tony. I hope you don't mind, but I was going to do something similar with a Mk 1 Escort.

Now thats all sorted , back to the build . I started with the small breeze block wall which was polystyrene scored to look like blocks . I thought it would look best at an angle on the base . Next I got some tile adhesive and spread it all over , thick at the front to represent the muddy farmyard tracks and I stippled it with a sponge round the sides and back to look like moss/ grass .
Next , after a bit of working out the sizes I started with the timber framework . After cutting and gluing it had a coat of very pale grey brown to look like faded old timber. The three trusses will be connected with the ridge and purlins then the corrugated cardboard can go on . I havent decided yet if its going to be an asbestos or rusty tin roof , just a different paint job between them.

Superb work Tony. The base is going to look very convincing, and the framing is looking very neat.

The grass/ moss has had a base coat of green , more variation and hopefully plants to come . Ive given the breeze blocks a wash over with light dirt to lighten them up a bit and simulate the mortar. I got out my hammer and nails and got the timber all fixed , more being added to the outside to mount the slats on . Next up is cutting and fitting all the vertical slats .
The fergie has also had a bit of attention . Rusty effects have been slapped all over and the rear tyres have had the bottoms cut off a bit to look as if theyre a bit flat, its going to get a little more attention but its not far off .

Time to get the slats started . I bundled together about 20 of the thin stirring sticks and taped them together tightly . Once I had the measurement for the sides I cut three lots all in one go . I ended up with a pile of slats all the same length so off I went . The wooden framework isnt fastened to the base so I was able to take it out for easier handling . The slats at the back and front need cutting individually as they go up to the apex of the roof , I left one out at the back as its supposed to be an old rundown barn . Ive also been looking at the roof - and started cutting scale 8’x3’ corrugated steel sheets , these will be slightly overlapped when fitted .

What do you think the mud is ? ! Or maybe I just keep a jar handy for when I fancy a spoonful
Seriously though its just what I keep my cellulose thinners in ( which Ive used as a liquid cement for years )

Youre not wrong there Joe ! I’m amazed at how much Ive really got into this , as a joiner by trade though its not surprising i’m enjoying messing about with bits of wood . More joinery to come too , theres the ledge and brace barn doors to make yet , cheers tony
