The idea Mr Kir, is that if you have a problem that is a part of a build thread, it is or could be an issue that will common to that particular model...or just a quick general question, then you could just use the "Help with..." prefix icon, then remove it once a satisfactory reply has been given.

Issues that are more general such as your mentioned bricks or thatch would be more suited to a new post in the relevant section of the forum. In that case you could include a link in both threads that will lead the reader from one to the other.

So in the build thread you could write something like: bla bla bla, but I am having problems with doing xxxxx, Please see the post in the xxxxx section her (Insert link to thread)

In the new thread you could start the post with something like; In my build of the Revell Roller (insert link) I have been having problems with doing xxxxx.

People following the build will follow the link and help with the problem and can then go back to the build again. This might also have the effect that people that only see the 'shout for help' might find the build thread and start to follow that as well...

Does that explain things? I think that this could be the simplest solution and one that we all can figure out how to do.

The easiest way I find is to open two windows. Find the thread you want to link to in the one and write the new thread in the other.Mark the www address in the browsers address line. copy that and then insert it in the thread you are writing

So a good old copy paste thing. it's much easier than faffing about with the insert link button at the top of the input window (where you type the message).

This is of course if you are using windows. as for all the iPhone/iPad/mac/apple/commador64 users I have no idea and will let one of them reply.

Your "...if you have a problem that is a part of a build thread..." would have suited my recent question about the mounting of my Rolls Royce number plate, because it is specific to that or similar models. That's fine.

Your "Issues that are more general..." is exactly what I was wanting. Excellent! All clear now.

Have you wondered Ian "what was I doing starting all of this" ;)
Well to be perfectly honest? Yes lol

On the plus side I would like to think that a) it has started a discussion and b) people might actually think more about how and where they post.

This should not be misconstrued. We still have THE best forum with the BEST members. (OK the Admin can be a bit of a PITA at times). I Just try to make it better. Not an easy job at times but 9/10 times worth the effort.

Well said Ian.

This idea of separate threads with links to & fro is much too complicated for my small brain! I want to concentrate on making models!

I must say though that some of the comments seem rather negative to me. If I see someone asking for help in a build, I'll always look to see what the problem is, even if it's not a build that I've been following.

To say that people will ignore such requests for assistance if it's not in a separate thread seems to go against the ' espirit de corps ' of this forum.

My thanks to Ian for bringing the subject up as it has produced an interesting thread.
