I fancied building something basic and easy to restore my mojo after the lengthy Shackleton build.
Where better to come than a vintage kit?
The Westland Wyvern has always been a favourite of mine with it's mean, brutish look. This offering by Frog combines 1960s style kit simplicity and fun in equal measure.
The kit has a basic but adequate cockpit (little can be seen under the closed canopy anyway) basic exterior detail and raised panel lines. (Modelling heaven in my opinion...!)
My only changes to the OOB build were to open up the area the tail wheel retracts into and a little work around the exhaust ducts and main undercarriage struts.
The kit went together perfectly with no filler needed at all. The decals were from the kit.
A fun kit all round and a great way to restore the urge to build more...! 🙂

Nice Robert. I keep looking at a large scale one of these, having seen one at a show the other week.

Great work!

Get it, you know you want to.... I get the same urge when I see a B 36 Peacemaker kit or the 1.48 Westland whirlwind twin-prop fighter... 😀

Thank you Paul.
For an oldie the plastic was very robust (think Matchbox) and the parts fit was almost perfect. A joy to build. 🙂

Nice model, looks like some fiddly parts in this scale, love the look of that big engine.

Thanks Steven. 🙂. Not so many parts to be fair, around 40 I think. I left off one set of tickets and added drop tanks instead. The centreline bomb was also from the spares box. 🙂

Sometimes Robert, a vintage kit just 'ticks' the box. Not many parts, not much detail to worry about. Just build and enjoy. Nice job Robert.

Thank you Colin 😊. I've just noticed "tickets" should read "rockets" though...!

Amazing how well these geriatric kits can turn out with a bit of patience and skill. Well done.
