Geoffs Airfix 1/48 North American F-86F Sabre.

Well despite the fit issues and the added complication of the finish that you're going for I reckon that is looking very good.
I think I pay too much attention to detail but it just nags at me if I don’t
Maybe but it usually results in a better model (y)

Yes your right Jim, fingers crossed that it pays off for this one 😊

I’m puzzled by this kit 🤔

I’ve seen several build reviews none of which mention any fit issues and yet it’s possible one of the worst I’ve built.

I never expect a perfect kit but just out of interest I’ve highlighted the problem areas in the pictures below. These don’t include the airbrake areas and the usual seams.

I wonder if it’s a result of Airfix changing the type of plastic used.

Possibly the worst area was the forward wing roots.

Now I admit I’m no Sabre expert but I’m pretty sure those gaps shouldn’t be there 😂

Anyway, a fairly easy fix with my usual technique of gluing in pieces of plasti-card which is then trimmed to shape.

The rest of the issues have been sorted with a combination of Squadron grey putty, Perfect Plastic Putty and old school CA glue mixed with talc.

Anyway enough moaning as it is now ready for some primer 😊. No doubt this will reveal a few more areas of interest 😵‍💫

Another update soon, thanks for looking 👍

Not ideal quality from Airfix, but I am sure you can overcome these issues with your skill, Geoff.

The Sabre has mixed reviews, maybe as you say they did change the plastic. I have found that darker grey plastic Airfix uses to be very soft and prone to damage.

That's not good Geoff!
No, very disappointing 😕

Cheers Joe, previously I’d only seen positive reviews but I’ve just watched Chris Becker of Beckers Models on YouTube battling through his Sabre build. I wish I’d seen it before I started but I’m slowly whipping it to some kind of shape 👍

I feel your pain Geoff but you are nailing it.
Thanks Steve, slowly getting there 🙂
