Going underground: "BMP in Aleppo ll"

The dedication of four years worth of development is really evident here Steven, looking superb so far!

What kind of alchemy is this? You must be a distant descendant of Da Vinci or Michaelangelo to be so artistic and Brunell for your engineering skills - just awesomely superb.

It would be better to keep the WHOLE of the diorama in one place.

Thanks so much Gents
following recommendations going forward all topics contained in the building of the dio will be here in this thread for ease of navigation

RUIN- Second floor - the Mg nest
battle of Aleppo was characterised by periods of stalemate where active fighting subsided and was replaced by skirmishes and harassing fire often with heavy Mgs straifing areas
As such the building fortified and maybe commanding the wiew over the area is a good example -in my mind at least....
Placed on the second floor in a heavily sandbagged position a 12.7 Dshk.
first attempt to build a tripod:

My first idea was to have the MG on a platform made from ammo crates
kGBD8wp.jpg

I did eventually abandon that idea and the crates will be stacked instead as can be seen in the second attempt at the mount ( as the Legs kept falling off the damn thing..)

I plan to add sandbags at the end of the legs to brace the mount and limit the moving when fired

all for now thanks for watching

empty shell casings litter the floor - a Dshk spit out a lot

.....and the sandbags slight hovering will be fixed when more rubble is added

Ammo boxes relegated to being filler

...and one being used for the gunner to stand on

I need to fill a corner

The plan is to place this table there and place a transistor radio and Coffee pot on it for that "lived - in" feel

- and maybe a pillow to the couch....

All for now - thanks for watching

Hi Guys
Some work on the items on the corner table - coffee pot, glasses and the transistor Radio, I am thinking of adding a book or a pamphlet to this but it might crowd the table

The table in the Corner fits the scene very well methinks

Adding a casualty:

I have become less squeamish over the years in terms of adding Casualties to my dio's.
That being said, IMHO it need to be done in taste and support the story. In this case, I want a general atmosphere around the building to support an impression of a "Last Ditch Stand" where rebs have fallen back to the Ruined building in (semi) prepared positions. Adding a fallen Gunner in the vicinity of the MG makes sense, as the Prescence of a casualty adds a sense of "this building was recently captured" (bodies tend to cleared away in hot klimate zones fairly quickly).
Playing around with the positions:
the most effective use seems to be near the MG (or?) :

..But could also be placed in the holes in the wall made by the defenders (this will showcase their use):

or maybe on some of the other floors or the Street - will post some more pics

You're right about adding casualties to models is a contentious issue and has to be approached with care. In this case the body helps tell the story.
For what it's worth I like either photo 3 or 5.

Thanks Jim - any particular reason ?
BTW I was amiss in not detailing what can affect the eye of the beholder
The room will be darker once the roof goes on contributing to this is the broken slaps of concrete which partially obscure the wiev into the room
Therefore in my mind the most effective use of the casualty is with head facing the wiewer near the edge
