The wife found this in her purse, and gave it to me. I never knew they were around.

Can't say as I have ever seen one but then again, I don't usually carry that much money  :/ . Pretty cool though, really like it.

Well I can't help wondering how many have passed through my hands without me even looking. And what other subjects are there ?
 
It was released as a special edition by the Royal Mint in a commemorative wallet - that showed Mk IX Spitfires on the cover...
 
years My lad has a collection of various 50p's and I think he has this one. It celebrated 75 years, and the wallet version sells for around £15ish.

Quite right. Worse they were in the Day Fighter Scheme (adopted August 1941 , a year after the battle) and I believe depicted a squadron (No. 124) not formed in 1940. I'd give the Royal Mint a D for their research :)

Had one colin , researched it and found that if i put it on e bay it was worth about 50 p,.... so it went into the coffee machine at work!!! The ones you want to look out for are the Kew Gardens ones , they can go for about £30 to £40 !!
