Just a quick update.

Mouth still hurts but at least I can eat, though I am favouring food items like yoghurt, jelly and ice cream!

I was measured up for a wheelchair last week but have no idea when I will get one.

As far as I can see getting me ready to go home is the main thing currently. I do have some oncology treatments and appointments to come as well.

Basically I am bored stiff,
Bored being in bed
Bored with the food
Bored, just bored with the same routine every day.

HONESTLY Barry jen an i are very sorry to hear how you are doin as we was both hopein to see you get better an yes BORED bein the main word for you an jen an i feel for you Sir an we have been thinking of how you have been gettin on an just hope you can get your wheel chair before to long an be nice to hear you will be goin home as when you get out you will have all the challenges to try an get back to how you was an to see you back at the bench an buildin that big lank will hopefully see you get a bit better an enjoyin life again as i only had a week in norwich hos an i was not allowed any food in case of op an when i did leave to go home i felt worst than before i went in as jen was amazed at how shrunken i looked an she fed me up an was my ole self again in a couple of days SO

Keep your chin up Barry, bet you have heard that a few times...
Going to become a wheelchair user, naw!!! get one of those souped up mobility scooters, then we can have a group build, just let us know when you are out and about, then we can use the other streets.
It's a PITA being confined to bed, been there for a couple of months, and boy! does the time drag, but you have to keep the mind active. I was whining away one day and one of the other patients wheeled himself over and threw about 6 books at me, all by the same author and in sequence. Since then I have been an avid reader, even in the truck I would have about a dozen books either to read or swap with other drivers.
How about this for an idea, build an imaginary model on the forum, you can cut and paste parts of the instructions you can download from Scalemates of a multitude of vehicles/planes/ships and edit in MS Paint/photoshop then publish your 'build' as you go along.
Hope things start to sort themselves out soon and you can start to recover.

The trouble is, Barry, that you have always been mentally and physically active so being stuck in bed must be hell. I hope things get sorted so that you can get home. I'm sure that being home will help your recovery. We're all thinking of you and wish you well.

Sad to read the last update Barry, bit of a shock I bet.

Well the Ward doctor was horrified that nothing had been done about my tongue/tooth issue. The pain has been quite intense. So he went off and took the initiative himself, found a temporary solution, put a dressing on the tooth which shields my tongue. So far so good, it feels so much better and will get a chance to heal.

I am still awaiting a wheelchair…..
that’s all that’s keeping me in hospital…….

As far as the oncology, all going well and I have been appraised of future treatments of injections and pills which should continue for up to 4/5 years at which time chemo will be next.

So, still bored stiff but within a day or two hopefully I can enjoy food again, well the boring hospital diet that is.

Glad your mouth is feeling better and you'll soon be able to eat without pain. The cancer treatment seems to be organised and to a plan.
Hopefully a wheel chair will be sorted soon, then home and a return to the bench.

It's about time they had your mouth ulcer problem sorted and you're back to regular eating. I've learnt to appreciate any kind of food thrown at me having had four years of hostel food with a weekly repetitive take it or leave it menu. Be thankful there is food and it's better than the last hospital. Are they building the wheelchair from scratch or is it one of those with a V8 engine and powered steering? Cheer up Barry it's now only the wheelchair to wait for and then it's back home.

Are they anywhere near sorting out a wheelchair? If I recall correctly you're in a flat aren't you? Are you on the ground floor?

Well still awaiting the wheelchair. I have bought a bath lift, being delivered to my flat Monday when my youngest son will take delivery and check it out.

Also Monday a temporary wheelchair is being delivered on loan so I will be able to get used to using it. And, hopefully that will speed up discharge.

A power lift wheelchair is also being delivered for me to test drive. I think this one will be too big for my flat though. Worth trying it out.

A bit of progress but hospital is now getting beyond tedious.

One more bit of good news. My younger son, the adventurer, is back from hunting crocodiles in Australia and is staying in my flat. He will stay a week or so after I am discharged. Hopefully that will also help speed discharge.

So a bit of good news, Barry. I can imagine the sheer boredom and frustration at still being in hospital. Like being stuck in limbo. Nice to have your son able to help settle you back home.

Glad to hear things are starting to look more positive for you Barry.I cant begin to imagine being stuck in hospital that long.Must be just sheer purgatory.

Well folks, I am home…

It all happened quite rapidly in the end. I employed the private OT who arranged a wheelchair delivery, now the released me…

My younger son is staying with me at least until I get my power lift wheelchair by which time I should be able to live entirely independently.

I have a steep learning curve over the next few weeks but it is amazing to be home…..

My son is sleeping in my modelling room so I am a bit restricted at the moment, but I will soon be back at the bench.
