While waiting for the high winds to cease, I thought I would do a quick review of this item. It's part of Hobby Zone's Modular system for storage and organization for hobbyists. The model number is HZ-OM02u and sells for around €24 to €29 online here. I ordered this online from Super-Hobby as no one else had it in stock. Delivery only took 3 days. The box is 34cm x 16.5cm x 5.5cm and weighs about 1000 grams...
What's in the box,
Laser cut press board and white laminated pieces too The frame and drawer frame sides are 6mm thick and the rest is 3mm thick. You get get 10 small Allen wrench screws and 8 strong magnets in a baggy, but no tools...The destructions are a single page and pretty easy to follow,
Construction is straight forward using wood glue. As a precaution, I went with using small brads/nails to strengthen various areas while assembling it. I drill holes 9mm deep using a 1mm drill bit. I did this to the main body and the side pieces of the drawers,
The 2 larger holes in the side panel are for the magnets to hold the modules together with another modular piece. The same with the top and bottom pieces when you stack them. Just be sure to insert them correctly so they stick together and not against each other with their polarity. I let every glue join dry overnight. I didn't use any clamps, just some weight in places till they dried. When dried, you just have to screw the Allen screws into the back of the drawers (above pic, left). The finished product,
It comes with 6 drawer dividers for you to use as needed,
They fit into the slots perfectly! I did a few tests with various paints and here are some results,
Large 23ml Tamiya paints fit, although their description says only their 10ml bottles will. AV, MIG, AK and the like fit fine. Another pic,
The AV bottles tops fit into the slots and the wash bottle fits in perfectly too. The combos are entirely up to your individual needs. You can also store everything from etch to tools or whatever in them and use the dividers accordingly...
I would give the unit a very good and useful rating. Maybe a bit pricey for some and there may be similar units from other makers that are cheaper. It's up to one's personal tastes. I recommend taking the little extra time to drill and pin it, along with the glue, to assemble it. Other than that, I hope this review was helpful and if you are thinking of becoming a member of Jimbo's (Jim R) TBC, then this unit is for you to tidy up your bench!
