Scale Model Shop

How accurate do you make your model?

Yep….doesn’t match the lore……it’s something I have against Games Workshop adherents…..
Yeah, there’s a thousand Space Marine chapters and GW detailed maybe a couple of dozen, yet people will claim you’re wrong if you, say, paint some* like this:

* About 4–5000 points’ worth in the end, IIRC :)

Those look striking - they must make a real splash on the wargames table, good for you!

I've just been to a wonderful art gallery in Norwich Castle. Lots of incredible pictures from the Norwich school - celebrated artists like Cotman, Crome and Vincent.

Some folks, who can't see the wood for the trees, might dismiss their work for being 'inaccurate' - there's certainly a huge amount of artistic licence on display. But it's the creativity of their work that's so appealing - why should it need to be true-to-life?

I paint to produce something I like, something that pleases me and my friends. If others want to attempt a slavish reproduction of the collected fictional works of (in my case) George RR Martin, that's their affair.

I say paint, model, make in a style that suits you, entertains you, tickles you. When the original source is fantastical, it's literally impossible to get it wrong, surely?

They look .......pretty in pink........
The army got started when a couple of players at the game store I frequented about 15 years ago, were joking about pink Space Marines with black codpieces. I said, “I’ve got some unbuilt ones left, I’m going to paint them like that” to which they replied, “Don’t! Give them to us instead if you really want to do that!” (meaning: you’ll be wasting perfectly good models). So of course, next week I had a five-man squad of exactly that painted up :) After that it became a full army, though with ever greater innuendo built into the figures. Not everybody on The Bolter & Chainsword could appreciate it by that time :)

It was certainly difficult to mistake anyone else’s army for mine :) Best of all was the time when I played against someone who had an Imperial Fists army, whose colour scheme is all-over yellow. When we had set up, my opponent said he suddenly had the urge to eat some of this candy:

Like the diorama part the best, do spend a lot of time researching buildings .
Have tried to be right as far as the model goes, but not as good with PE as I would like.
