Another little just for fun poll. No wrong answers. How much research and accuracy do you aim for? Or are you a "build it for fun" kind of modeller?

I do a LOT of research:thumb2:....
.... And then it generally goes downhill from there!!:tears-of-joy::tears-of-joy:...
.... But I DO enjoy what I do,and that's the important thing:thinking:

I tend to vary between 2 and 5, depending on what I’m building. If (a picture of) a real vehicle captured my imagination, I’ll want to build that exactly as it appears there, though I make concessions to things I find to be beyond my skills. On the other hand, I have no problem either with building a model straight from the box with no regard for lack of accuracy that it may have. Most builds are somewhere between the two.

Since i got obsessed with StuG's i do go into detailed research and will be a doing a lot on the new RFM StuG which arrived yesterday. Other stuff i just build out of box

I usually research quite a bit but seldom try for perfection. Most results are OK to fine at a 3 foot viewing distance. Models that are very good representations encourage me to add interior/exterior details and appropriate figs.

If making a model for somebody else then I try to make it as accurate as possible. If making models for myself, sometimes accuracy is the last thing on my mind.

for me the research is part of the fun of the hobby and the level of detail depends on what I'm building. when I am sculpting a bust i try to get the uniform as accurate as possible, if it a bust of an actual person then getting a likeness is important.

when I build a vehicle most are of generic vehicles rather than specific vehicles, occasionally one will be of an actual vehicle, in which case I try to be as accurate as the research I have done.

also the mood I'm in st the time. Sometimes a simple out-of-the-box build is just what is needed!

I go for the full research, get the info I need and then build it out if the box! :rolling: :confounded: :tears-of-joy:

Given that most of my builds are currently for wargaming, it's somewhere between 2 and 3. That said I do like the builds and markings to be in line with unit formations and the time frame wherever possible.

That said if I'm building a specific 'thing', as I plan to do in the future, then I want to try and get it as accurate as I can. In one case I spent hours on working out whether or not a specific set of markings would work on a Mosquito build I have planned.

ATB.

I spend far too long researching. When I say researching, I actually mean looking at pictures, then all of a sudden, it's bed time.

Build many models of scantily clad ladies, do you? :tongue-out:

I'm between 2 and 3. Purely on the basis of time allowance and the limitations of my skills.

I'm sort of like Colin above, but fall asleep at the table (don't have a bench) sometimes too....I'm between 3 and 4 as I do a bit of scratch building of things not available in kit form and research is the key to making them. Researching is fun and you learn a lot about what your building too. It does suck when your building something using the info you found and then have to correct it due to new info found on it........

In the past I’ve been all the way up to five, but finally understood that that way lies madness. I’m now around two to three…..currently running on one though, painting fantasy figures :smiling2:

Yep….doesn’t match the lore……it’s something I have against Games Workshop adherents…..they are more prevelants in historical though, especially Napoleonics……

If the box says thats what it is ie a Ukrainian Corn Kart with home made square wheels thats what it must be ,joking aside nine times out of ten whats in the box is good enough replacing grab handles etc in 72nd is pretty much par for the course so doesn't count for much ,I will sometimes if cheap enough grab a resin and etch upgrade/conversion package then grab the kit if its something I fancy for no other reason than it makes a change from box bashing ,good to get your hands dirty as they say. WELL Guys on my tiger build i try an get it as right as possible as if not the ship wont look right so im at about 3 as on some small bits on the hull i cannot fit as if i do i'll have to cut through the main strenghtening bar an if i do that then the hull may fail so ive got to work around it but it wont be that noteiable

Between 1 & 3. Mainly 1. The vast majority of my builds are Out of the Box.
Although very occasionaly I will try to a more accurate build, I have one in planning
of a Sherman tank, my father was a tank commander of one, so I will try to get Regimental
markings etc as per the tank my father commanded.
