I need help please.

Here's the problem.....

My wife's aunt had a brother who was killed aged 21 whilst piloting a Beaufort Mk1 against German shipping off the Dutch coast during WW2. His body was washed up on the Dutch coast and he is buried in that country along with his crew.

Although in her 90's the aunt is in great health. Last year she commissioned a war artist to paint a 3ft. X 2ft painting of her brother's aircraft about to launch the attack. I went to visit her a while back and saw the painting and secretly decided to make a model of the aircraft to compliment the painting........

Today I received a suitable kit from Dave (gern) and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for remembering that I was on the hunt for a Beaufort. Cheers Dave, you're a star.

Now, over to you people....

I had intended to model the aircraft skimming the water about to launch it's torpedo. But my wife(quite rightly) suggested it might upset her aunt because it was a that moment that his aircraft was hit and crashed into the sea.

So what to do?

Over the water.

Simply flying, wheels up on a stand of some sort.

On the ground on a small base - this is the one I favour.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks,

Ron

Eyup mucker , ive been looking out for one for you too since Cosford , but no luck ! Good to see our dave has come up with the goods , top man. I would do the aircraft on a simple grass base if it were me , cheers tony

Ground based, that way it shows off the aircraft better and doesn't have the history of the attack.

Agree with Si (it pains me ;) ). Think you can also add a few RAF personal which

will give it not only some life but also a sense of scale.

Not sure what scale Ron but Revell do a pilots (walking ones) and ground crew set.

Laurie

I agree with the above, with your duo skills, I'm sure you could come up with something special. Derek

p.s. You will have to go on double shift with the number of models you have on the go

One more for on the ground on a small base. I don't feel any kind of 'action pose', for want of a better expression, is appropriate for this kind of thing. I've built a couple of similar projects and both were simply sat on an appropriate base.

Cheers

Steve

I agree with the guys. An 'action' setting would only serve as a reminder of a bad event. Best in a peaceful setting where she might remember him laughing and joking with his friends.

Also add Ron if the painting is an in the air , which you seem to suggest,

then a contrast ie on the ground would be appropriate as it will not clash,

so to speak.

laurie

agree with the lads a field base with a figure or two ,more of a snap shot look to it, ;)

Try a refueling or re arming doo with the pilot and maintenance crew?

Scott

Before I read the replies I was thinking on the ground with a few personel just to give some life. So my vote is ........on the ground for certain :)

Terra firma...I'm keeping this one grounded Ron

Lee :)

keep it simple

on the ground......grass on a nice wooden square......and a dust cover to keep it nice

adding the squadron badge some how would be a nice touch

Thanks to everyone for their opinions and suggestions....

I will display the aircraft on a simple picture frame base complete with the Squadron crest set into a corner of the base surface.

Just for info. here is the box art...

My good buddy Dave did suggest there was an excess of plastic, but we is mogellers ain't we, so who needs a kit that just falls together? That's boring!

Thanks again everyone.

Hello folks,

I'm nearly ready to apply the decals on this.....But I can't find the right 1/72 scale letters!

Can anyone help please? I'm hoping someone on here just might have the ones I'm looking for lurking in their spares box or can advise where I might get them from.....

I'm after the large white aircraft I.D. letters MW * K.......x2....each letter size, 10mm high X 6mm wide.

Also the small works number in black..AW190...x2 ......each letter/number size, 3mm high X approx. 2mm wide.

The other decals, the roundels etc. are fine.

I hope you can help in my quest, as to present an aged aunt with the finished model, complete with the correct lettering of her late brother's aircraft, would be great.

Thank you,

Ron

I need white recognition letters MW * K...x 2. Each letter size, 10mm H x 6mm W

" " black works number AW190....x 2. Each letter/number size 3mm H x approx. 2mm W.

All the other decals - roundels etc. - are fine.

To present an aged aunt with a model aircraft her late brother piloted during WW2, complete with the correct I.D. would mean something special to me.

I do hope someone on here can help.

Thank you,
