Thanks for the suggestion Patrick. Hannants do have decals, but not the I.D. one I require.

Peter, thanks also to you for taking the time to have rummage.

I'll keep hunting, but I suspect I'm going to fall at the first hurdle with this project.......

Thanks again boys,

Ron

What about those dry rub letters you get at stationary stores? Might get something close enough.

Not like you to give up young Ron! Someone makes generic letters and numbers for WWII RAF aircraft - I've seen them on ebay but can't remember who!

Expensive way to do it but .....

Surely someone here has bought these and could spare you a few.

If all else fails, you could always print your own, or you could paint them on ;) :)

I agree with Dave, you could put up a post in the bits bin or the wanted section :)

After patiently waiting for decals to crop up, I've finally finished this little tribute to my wife's aunt's late brother who was killed early on in WW2 whilst piloting a Beaufort attacking German shipping in the English Channel.....see my opening post on this thread.

Thanks to you good people for your suggestions as to how I should model this.

....and a big thanks to Dave (Gern) for finding the kit in the first place - Cheers Dave.

The Aunt's husband secretly sent me a picture of the original 3ft X 2ft water colour painting she had commissioned of her late brother's aircraft during the attack, where he was unfortunately killed.....This gave me a spot on reference for the colours etc. I required.

I managed to find the WW2 - 217 Sqn. crest, which I photo'd from the computer screen and printed. It didn't come out very well, so I had to touch it up with water colours and re-write the faint motto. I then made a little frame for it (another coat of paint on the frame, me thinks!)

I have pictures of a Beaufort on both concrete and grass, so I've combined both to place the aircraft on.

I managed to trace both the K * MW, and luckily the works No. AW 190....so with a bit of cutting and altering of the decals, I arrived at the correct letters and numbers.

I hope you like the end result....and probably more importantly, I hope the Aunt does too.

Once again a big thanks to all for your input on this.

Ron

Thanks for the positive response for my 'Tribute Build'.

As the model seems to have passed muster with my good mates here on S.M., it looks like me and the present Mrs. Ron can now plan a trip to visit her Aunty in Kenilworth.

Cheers all,

Ron

Yes, I'll let you all know how our visit turns out, and thanks for the interest.

....and Dave thanks again for finding and sending me the kit. Without your supreme sniffer instincts, all this might never have happened....I owe you one!

That is one very nice tribute build Ron and I'm sure your wife's Aunty will be well pleased
