Hi people,

I don't know if this has already been done or if this is the right area but I just wondered what do you use to display your models?

I have 4 large shelves which I have my collection all lined up on but I would love to have glass cabinets which light up etc. Here are some old pictures of them

The questions been asked a few times and the answer ranges from "specially built display stands" through to "stuffed in the loft in boxes"

Mine personally are scattered all over the house on book shelves, wall units, on top of vivariums ... basically anywhere :) :) :)

Nice collection of slots by the way ... do i see a lonesome stockcar sitting there? .. is it in working condition??

I have a couple (one without bonnet as per usual) along with a few other older models and about 800ft of track in the loft. :)

Ikea do a nice little vertical glass cabinet, optional halogen lighting, somewhere about the £40.00 mark if I remember. I've got one, it works well.

ive got two of those ikea cases...they are great cept i ran out of shelf space quickly and had to make some to double up the space...........could do with another if i had room lol

Nice collection!

Love the white Audi quattro and the red Ferrari gto! They was my firsts slot cars!!

I have my collection without glass like you, every few days it's time to clean they :(

That's impressive!

I have some glass shelves for a selected few. Dust is the main enemy. I use an airbrush to blow it off and one of those soft make-up brushes that SWMBO uses for ......errrr.....something to give them a brush. Do not "borrow" her current brush if you wish to live long and prosper.

Cheers

@CDW yes I have 2 of the stockcars and both run but as you say both are missing the bonnet.

If you want to see all my collection you can go to www.dans-garage.co.uk/gallery.php

@colin m I was looking at them cabinets so I might have to sweet talk my girlfriend hahaha

I love having mine on display but as you say @stona the dust is a big issue

Ok Steve...

Know I will do the stupid question of the week... I have no problem! ;)

But can you spell exactly SWMBO (know is the girlfriend), but what is his meanig!!

Polux, it's the acronym for She Who Must Be Obeyed. A term of endearment for one's wife/girlfriend (or resignation to the nature of your relationship).

The term originates from the H. Rider Haggard novel, "She" (first published 1886). The character Ayesha, known as She-who-must-be-obeyed, the Queen of Death, the White Goddess,of the lost city of Kôr who rules her kingdom with terror, She is the very image of the Femme Fatale. To disobey her or to scorn her is to earn & receive instantaneous death.

I give most of mine away to friends kids .......... I've only ever kept a couple .............. For me, it's about building them. I don't really have much interest in having them on shelves to look at...........

............ Maybe that makes me a bit odd ????

Peter

Beats binning them Peter.

SWMBO was made popular in the TV show Rumpole of the Bailey if I recall correctly.

I cover all my models with a protective layer of moisture reduced particulate matter.

Colin, whats a vivarium?

I display mine in two cabnets in our lounge, i get growled from swmbo for trying to steal needed parts.

Aaron, its a glass tank for reptiles. A bit like an aquarium, just with out the water... !

Thanks for explaining ian

Aaron we're both mad on reptiles here so there's a few vivariums strewn around the living room, some of them factory built some of them improvised old furniture. Perfect for sticking the odd diorama on :) :) :)

Thanks Joe. It was just a term I used when ever. I never thought to seek out its origins.

And don't forget Colin ... you've just started displaying your work on the local beach :) :)

Question for the glass cabinet guys.

does it make a huge difference to the dust?

I can't really display any of mine in the room due to having a coal fire, during the colder months when I have the fire on every evening it generates an amazing amount of dust, no immediately apparent till you have a wipe around a week later, coats everything and is slightly abrasive.

Currently I display mine on a bookshelf, (i've drastically thinned down from three 6ft shelves to one, just), those being the actual paper books I can't bear to part with or can't get on Kindle.

The Bookshelf is halfway up the stairs and is a surprisingly good place to catch peoples attention as they head for a pee, :)

I do make and give away quite a few of my models BTW, I like making them for my son who's now old enough to appreciate the display not play delicacy aspect of some.

The MV Agusta F4 I've started (for the GB but sort of got sidetracked) is going to be his once completed.
