Well, its one of those types of question anyway.

Typically speaking, how long do you spend on an average model? Most of mine (1:35 military stuff) take about 2 weeks each.

Also, do you usually only have one kit on the go at a time?

If no major work commitment intervenes,causing time away from home I can knock a large scale plane out in three to four weeks. Many take longer but very few less. It obviously varies according to how well the thing goes together and how many alterations I make to the basic kit. Like you I only ever have one kit on the go at any one time. This means that the total input to the model in a 24hr period may be no more than a coat of Klear!

I learned a long time ago not to give myself any deadlines,however spurious, as trying to meet them was always an invitation to Captain Cock Up and his merry men!

I have just measured a piece of string I found and the answer is 2' 3.5"! However, time is difficult to measure on a build. The 1:48 Mk IX spitfire was bought on a Saturday and finally finished the following Friday. How long I actually spent on it, I simply have no idea. The French Armoured carrier took a week and two days. If I had not spent so much time at work, on here, cooking, sorting out horrible (only kidding) kids, maybe three to four days less.

An interesting question so long as the answer does not matter. A kit should take as long to build as it does, and no less. I have a couple of part built kits started in December bt I could not say it has taken three months to build them.

I try to have one main kit on the go but I can happily demote it if something else comes along. The Eurofighter Typhoon I have on the go has been demoted by the French carrier and although very nearly finished, it has been demoted to secondary finishing while starting a new project. This, in the case of the typhoon, is simply because I have found it becoming boring and I don't want to rush it to completion and spoil it simply because I am bored. I would rather keep doing a little bit every now and again until it is finished. As well as that I have three other kits on the go, my horse drawn stuff which I really need to get back to soon.

i did try to plan the build and paint, but i'd find that when tuesday came for first colour, i'd realise that i had missed something and needed to do that first. So now i go with the flow. The current self propelled howitzer giant has taken 2 weeks so far. But i'm determined not to rush it, as the detail looks so good, and i want to make this my best so far.

It seems more difficult because of the fact that i can't cover this one in rust and mud to hide any cock ups i might make!!

Having 2 little ones it takes me months to finnish anything, at the moment I`ve got an Ardennes dio 70% done and a 1/48 spitfire 80% done and a load of armour and figures primmed ready to go ,with a bit of luck they might get finnished by christmas LOL,

Off work tomorrow and Saturday so will try and get a bit more done, Sunday is a no no with my sons football , the Grandprix , and Mothersday.

Trouble is I keep getting more ideas and buying things (happy days) also I spend more time on here than I do actually making the things ( getting my scalemodel fix )

Thats a long bit of string you unravelled there, double D!

Lets just say I have been building a Corvette; HMS Bluebell and that is getting to be well over 18 MONTHS since the start. On the other end I have a little DKW NZ350 motor bike that took a weekend! Most things between 2 weeks to a month.

Mine can vary enormously depending on a few different factors. At the moment the cold weather is putting a stop to modelling as i model in an unheated outbuilding(well ive got a halogen heater but it doesnt make much difference when it below freezing). The 1/76 wespe i recently did was done in about a week and a half but because its so small i could fetch a cutting mat with everything on into the house ,and did it in the warmth!!The other thing that can affect the time is the size /complexity of the plane, a 1/72 scale fighter can take a couple of weeks but the 1/32 mig 17 took 3 or 4 months and the 1/32 beaufighter ,due to the scratchbuilt interior and extra detailing to the cockpit/ engines and wheelwells took about a year!! On the second point i usually have 2 or3 on the go at the same time. Cheers tony
