discussion How to ensure an AB isn't a chinese knock off?

Used a site on evilbay that had a Badger105 Patriot for $71.99 plus free economy shipping (takes long but i'm out on a oil drilling operation for another week so it's fine). Every other place sells this AB anywhere from $86 to $126.00. The site and seller have only about 200 complains out of a couple hundred of thousands of orders. Is there a quick way to make sure its not a knock off, such as serial number, or registering the product with Badger ones it arrives? Products have a 14 day evilbay guarantee so want to make sure I jump right on it. Thanks

Well when it comes and you open the box and you see a two foot long black and white rat its a safe bet it's not an AB

Seriously though see if you can find a site that will give you the serial number most official sites to carry this sort of information

The 105 started selling about a year or two ago at $60 to $70. Over the last year or so it has risen to 80ish to 120. So when I saw it down to $72.00. I jumped at it, not sure how the AB market works but some AB models have risen in price...odd fluctuation.

If they've got a good feedback of over 90% and they've sold thousands of products you should be ok

Price is baffling on a lot of products if you look around you'll see massive variations in the same products , we bought a new bed and we saw the one we wanted and it was £700 but we looked about and got the same bed make and everything for just over £400 in a sale , this bloke probably has a few of them and wants offload them

When you get it, have a good look at the paper work that comes with it. The Chinese are good at most things when it comes to rip off's one thing they are totally naff at is the English Language.

I think they use Bing translate. That is so funny at times.

Register it with Badger when you get it as well. If there is some thing amiss they will let you know PDQ.

If it is Chinese then I would avoid it like the plague. My experience is that if anything goes wrong you will never get it right.

First trying to understand an answer to a question posed is impossible. Second do not expect to get satisfaction. Third if you send the item back that again in my experience is the last you are likely to see your item and the last you are likely to hear from the retailer if by some miracle you can find how to contact them. If bought on Ebay there will be a slight concern which rapidly disappears over the horizon.

Also you may think you are buying from the USA retailer but I traced one back to China. Just a little clever fake.

This is not hearsay it is my actual experience with two items. First I thought was perhaps unlucky the second confirmed it. Plus my bank balance is down by near £100. So beware !

As most things like this are made in China now days it's more unlikely it is a rip off. As the others say, Chinglish is the big give away of a clone.

Think you have hot the nail on the head Joe.

Very unlikely that a US UK or German product is going to be marketed in China. So any item which is US UK German product marketed form China is more likely to be a fake.

Chinese products which are marketed in the UK and other similar countries are I have found in general OK. That is as they are marketed by companies within the UK etc. Highly unlikely that a UK retailer will market a product with all the guarantees which go with it unless they have a fair idea that the product is genuine and reliable.

Do 'branded' air brushes actually get copied ? I know the forgery market is vast, but air brushes have such a limited market, would it be worth while copying one? If what I've just said is slightly accurate, your air brush is probably good.

A limited market Colin? Apart from the handful of model makers, there are also artists, car painters, designers, beauty-shops, and the odd (real) photographer. Airbrushes are not the private reserve of plastic bashers like us.

Also the problem with China is if they see ANY product they will copy it. From cars, to Jet fighters, even the humble manhole cover in the road by your house. The phrase "why reinvent the wheel, when you can just copy the one there is" comes to mind.
