"I say, you down there, we have a bit of a problem - Awfully good if you could help us out!"

On August 10th, 1998, the British T class nuclear submarine HMS Tosspot sounded a general alarm. At the time she was patrolling in extreme Northern Latitudes.......

Her Captain ordered "Surface the boat!"

"Only ice above, but only thin sir."

"Surface, but easy does it."

Luckily, the ice was indeed thin, so the submarine was able to gently force herself up through the ice, with nothing but a scratch or two. Further more by sheer luck, she had surfaced close by The British Arctic Survey Base. Three of it's members came hot foot over to the now stationary submarine......

"What's up? You scared us to death with all that grinding and cracking!"

The sub's Captain spoke.
"You tell them, Number One....!"
"Yes, sir. Hello chaps, well it's like this, er....you see, we, er.....left good old Blighty stocked up to hell and all with provisions.
"Get to the point!" shouted the Captain.
"Well, and you're never going to believe this, but.....er, our cook, chef, whatever you want to call him has broken the tin opener...and guess what? We have no replacement!
The Captain butted in...
"So chaps, if you can, it would be awfully good of you to let us have one of yours. We can then resume our course for The West Indies."

So here is H.M.S. Tosspot having broken through the ice, patiently waiting for the replacement tin opener.

You come up with some wacky stories Ron, but the builds are just outstanding. I can honestly say some if not all of the photo's look so real.
Once again Ron outstanding work.

Hmmmm, I dunno, looks like a real sub to me! :smiling3: :thumb2:

First - cracking story!!! :tongue-out:
Second - it took me along while to realise that I wasn't looking at photos of the above said sub but instead a vignette!?!
Holy moly what a fantastic job!!! One to be really proud of! Even got the footprints done in the snow on the ice... Really impressive!!!

Got any high res photos somewhere? Some build photos?
I'd really love to know how to make ice and snow look that realistic so any reference pictures would be gold!

Fantastic work Ron and a great story. Just looking at the pictures make you feel cold. Will we see them reach the West Indies so we can warm up a bit?

A big thank you for all your positive comments about this build - and the 'silly' story!

It was great fun coming up with both.

The tin opener? Here it is. The rusty'ist, dirty'ist one the base could find. "Bloody Navy, serves 'em right."

The crew should have a bit of fun stowing it too.........!

Thanks John.
I'm well pleased you like the build.
......such posts as yours make it all worth while.

Have you been sniffing the TET again Ron? :tongue-out:

Great vignette, very realistic.

Peter - Glad you like the sub. I don't know what TET is, but if it has the same effect as my home brewed beer, then I'm guilty as charged!..:upside:..:thumb2:

Ian - Thanks for the compliment, and I'm glad to read the story did the trick too!

Cheers.
Ron
