Hi all, as I have a couple of builds that should be in completed sections this coming week I have made a start on the Scammel, I'll be between this and my group build project.
17 sprues ,a bag of plastic tyres and some etch,so far the instructions seem straight forward.
Four versions, German captured Africa korps,
Red army ,eastern front .
REME of 7th armoured ,Normandy or 6th south African armoured, Egypt.haven't decided which I'm going for yet.
Made a start with the engine and fuel tank and gone together in no time.20210905_211002.jpg20210905_211050.jpg

I'll follow Mark I used to drive the later model in the R.E.M.E. Best off road vehicle there was.

Hi John, my dad had a Leyland guy recovery truck when I was a kid and a Bedford tk but the Scammel does look like a beast.

The Leyland Martain was another truck we had in Germany. The Scammel was a beast alright, pull a 434 tracked with out even knowing you were towing it.

View attachment 433022 12 Speed box, low, intermediate and high. The crane was suburb .Much warmer in the winter as it had a heater !

Nice start. Iconic truck this….when I was a kid our local bus depot had one as a recovery vehicle.

Hi Mark
Wonderful looking truck, a real beast. I'll enjoy following your build.

Quick update, got some more done, all pretty straight forward so far.20210909_235059.jpg

That's looking good Mark, that front suspension gave fantastic off road capabilities with it's transverse design.

How did the chassis go in building ? I struggle with keeping the chassis square :smiling3:
Like the tool storage bin, very neat .:thumb2:

Cheers John, chassis wasn't to tricky, I let it dry with some weight on top to keep it square, still got quite a bit to add and the axles are not glued yet.

Nice progress Mark. Looks like a very well designed kit so far.
Hi Tim
Yes some thought has been put into the sprue layouts and how parts are attached, a well designed and moulded kit, I'm impressed so far.

Chassis and the running gear now put together and the crane winch done.20210913_224000.jpg20210913_223642.jpg20210913_223610.jpg

Lovely work. There is plenty of detail here to take your eye isn’t there.

Thanks Tim, it is a nicely detailed kit but as with all these chassis and engines it will soon be hidden away never to be seen again!

Mark

Coming on very nicely.

As you say, is a shame that a lot of it will be hidden away, never to be seen again.

ATB.

This is why I usually dry-fit things like the cab and bonnet to see which parts underneath them can go straight into the spares box :) With a lot of soft skins you can leave the entire engine out, or only fit the sump, and nobody will be the wiser.

Hi Mark
As Tim says there is some lovely detail. Just hope that quite a lot can still be seen on the completed model. Your build is very neat and clean :thumb2:
